While Honda launched the SU7 to rival Tesla in China, can it do the same here?
We all know that China is one of the biggest markets for electric vehicles (EVs). It has even spawned the infamous EV price wars but for the most part, we know all the EV players in China. Well, now another brand is ready to throw its hat into the ring with the launch of its new EV SUV, the S7, which is designed to compete directly with brands like Tesla.

Boasting an impressive range of over 400 miles (roughly over 644km), the Honda S7 offers both stellar EV performance and long range to alleviate range anxiety. Currently available exclusively in China, this highly electric SUV seems like it would do well in Malaysia too. So now we ask, will Honda bring the S7 to ASEAN markets next?
Moreover, the Honda S7 comes in two distinct variants to choose from. The RWD model makes 268hp, offering a balanced performance for daily driving, while the AWD variant is aimed at more power-focused drivers, delivering a staggering 469hp. Essentially, Honda has a variant for you regardless of what your preferences are.
Inside, the Honda S7 is packed to the gills with all the modern technology and premium comfort features one would expect. Featuring a spacious interior with luxurious touches and a twin screen infotainment system, a panoramic dimming sunroof and features like phone-controlled remote parking and Level 2 self-driving systems, this car is definitely well specced.

On top of that, in terms of design, Honda has incorporated sleek, modern elements like retractable door handles and a glowing front emblem, giving the S7 a futuristic look that stands out in the competitive electric SUV market. Plus the modular battery setup also keeps cost down, so the S7 should be quite affordable for what you get.
While the features and performance of the Honda S7 are definitely top notch, it is still only available in China for now. The good news, though, is that the car starts from just USD36,000 (roughly RM159,166), so it is truly quite affordable. As for whether the S7 will make its way to global markets, including ASEAN, we will have to wait and see.

Still, we remain hopeful given Honda’s increasing focus on EVs and the growing demand for EVs in ASEAN countries, the launch of the S7 in these regions could be a natural next step for the brand. It is also pertinent to remember that Honda already showed off the e:N1 and has plans to introduce more BEVs here so the S7 may be coming sooner rather than later.
