It looks like the Denza D9 EV MPV has taken away sales from the popular used recon MPV segment recently
Denza electric vehicle brand just arrived months ago and after the launch of their first vehicle, the D9 electric MPV they have created enough social media buzz to persuade enough Malaysians to turn their back of a used Toyota Alphard or Vellfire from Japan which sells for between RM280k to RM330k without any after sales or factory warranty.
This D9 all-electric MPV is available locally in two variants: Advanced FWD for just RM259,000 and Premium AWD at RM309,000.
Here is the delivery of the first 200 units to buyers and looks like more will be turning their backs on recon luxury MPV’s at this price point.
This also means that Malaysians get better value as the Denza D9 has all and more to rival a used recon Alphard, plus the D9 is fully electric with full after sales and factory warranty.
The Denza D9 is available locally with a choice of three exterior hues (Arctic White, Whale Sea Blue or Cosmos Black). The first 800 customers who order this e-MPV will also be entitled to a free 22 kW wallbox (including installation), free six years/120,000 km service, a free exclusive Denza neck and waist pillow, as well as a free exclusive set of Denza luggage.
The warranty offered with the D9 are a six years/150,000 km package for the vehicle, eight years/160,000 km for the battery and eight years/150,000 km for the drive motor and motor controller.

Meanwhile, the BYD electric vehicle brand which has been successfully marketed and distributed by automotive powerhouse Sime Darby Motors since December 2022 has seen phenomenal sales success in Malaysia despite a Chinese electric car price war (which started in March 2024) and even tough competition from European brands in the last year.
Interestingly, in early October 2024, JPJ registration data showed that Sime Darby Motors delivered the 10,000 BYD unit and the demand in Malaysia continues into 2025.

More recently, BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd. and Sime Darby Auto Imports Sdn Bhd. signed an agreement to be official importer for Denza, BYD’s premium sub-brand, in Malaysia. At the same signing event BYD Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. who have have had an office in Sunway Malaysia for some years now took on the role of being official distributor for Denza premium electric vehicles in Malaysia.
