The new BYD Dolphin gets a new design a lower price and more features.
In Malaysia, the BYD Dolphin serves as the entry level EV for the brand. For a while it generated quite a bit of sales for the company. However, ever since the introduction of the M6 and the Proton e.MAS 7, the value proposition of this hatchback has been somewhat diluted. Well it may just find a second life in Malaysia before the end of the excise duty exemption as a new model has just been launched in China according to CarNewsChina.

The new BYD Dolphin electric hatchback has undergone significant exterior redesign, featuring larger headlights, a more prominent trapeze-shaped air intake, and a sportier bumper. The vehicle now comes with flush door handles. The rear design has been updated with a new taillight unit that integrates the BYD emblem, removing the spelled-out “Build Your Dreams” inscription, a move that mirrors what happened with the updated Atto 3.

Interior Improvements and Technology
The interior of the new BYD Dolphin features extensive updates, including a new three-spoke steering wheel with a gear shifter column. The dashboard now showcases an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, while the center console has been streamlined. Standard across all models is a 12.8-inch center touchscreen and a six-speaker audio system. The center tunnel includes a powerful 50W wireless phone charging pad for enhanced convenience.

Advanced Driver Assistance System
A standout feature of the new Dolphin is the incorporation of BYD’s latest God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100) driving assistance system. This advanced system utilizes a tri-camera block positioned beneath the windshield and supports high-speed Navigation On Autopilot (NOA) functionality across 10 different driving scenarios. BYD has announced plans to further enhance this system with city driving NOA capabilities through future updates.

Powertrain Options and Range
The new BYD Dolphin comes with three distinct powertrain configurations:
- Entry-level: Front-wheel drive with 70 kW (94 hp) motor, 45.1 kWh LFP battery delivering 420 km range
- Mid-range: Front-wheel drive with 130 kW (174 hp) motor, 45.1 kWh LFP battery offering 410 km range
- Premium: Front-wheel drive with 150 kW (201 hp) motor, 60.5 kWh LFP battery providing 520 km range
Competitive Pricing
The facelifted BYD Dolphin has launched in China with three trim levels priced between 99,800 and 125,800 yuan which is actually a small drop in price over the 2024 model despite upgrades. The new Dolphin is already available at dealerships throughout China.
