Hyundai, Kia & Genesis Earn 12 IIHS 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK & TOP SAFETY PICK+ Awards

Hyundai, Kia and Genesis have proven how safe they are on top of their high quality

Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, has made history by earning an astonishing total of 12 awards at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2025 Top Safety Pick (TSP) and Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) awards. This is a quarter of the total awards given so far in 2025, surpassing all other automakers in the annual IIHS assessment.

Brian Latouf, President and Global Chief Safety and Quality Officer at Hyundai Motor Group, stated, “Outstanding safety performance is core to the Hyundai Motor Group. Our achievement in the 2025 IIHS awards, with the most stringent test criteria ever, underscores our unwavering commitment to customers and relentless engineering to deliver the highest level of safety for occupants and road users. These results affirm our dedication to safety leadership for 2025 and beyond.”

Moreover, among Hyundai Motor Group’s brands, Hyundai and Genesis each earned five TSP+ awards, while Kia secured two. This highlights the exceptional safety standards embedded in all Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles as part of the Group’s commitment to offering uncompromising levels of safety and quality to customers.

The five Hyundai Motor TSP+ winners include the IONIQ 5, Kona SUV, Tucson SUV, Santa Fe SUV (built after November 2024) and the IONIQ 6. Meabwhile, Genesis gained recognition with four TSP+ awards for its GV60 SUV, the electrified GV70 SUV, the GV70 SUV (built after April 2024) and the GV80 SUV while the Genesis G90 large luxury sedan earned a TSP award.

On top of that, Kia’s two TSP+ award winners were its EV9 SUV and the Kia Telluride SUV and this is all made even more impressive when one considers that the IIHS raised the bar for the 2025 TSP and TSP+ awards, introducing updated criteria that place a stronger emphasis on the protection of second-row occupants.

These changes included advanced seat belt technology and other innovations designed to enhance passenger safety. With these stricter standards, just 48 models qualified for the 2025 awards, compared to 71 models in 2024.

The IIHS evaluation includes rigorous crash tests, including small and moderate front overlap, side impact and crash prevention tests, as well as pedestrian safety measures and updated rear passenger safety standards. Hyundai, Genesis and Kia’s stellar performance underscores the Group’s dedication to prioritizing safety across its entire vehicle lineup.
