GAC And Huawei To Collaborate On An EV, Will It Be Sold Here Under Warisan TC?

Will we see a new brand be launched or will it be sold as rebadged GAC cars instead?

Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), has already established itself here in Malaysia with its GS3 EMZOOM but now the brand has announced that it has plans to start a new joint venture with smartphone brand Huawei with the goal of launching a new high end electric vehicle (EV) brand. So will we see this brand here in Malaysia?

GAC had revealed that it had invested 1.5 billion yuan (approximately RM916.23 million) to establish this joint venture. The announcement was made through the WeChat platform, which has become an essential channel for Chinese companies to communicate with the public and investors.

Moreover, this collaboration signals a significant step toward integrating advanced technology into cars, with Huawei bringing its strength in 5G, artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technology. Huawei, which is primarily known for its telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics, has been increasingly venturing into the automotive sector in recent years.

Huawei has already made substantial strides in the development of smart vehicle technologies, including infotainment systems, autonomous driving, and advanced connectivity features. By teaming up with GAC, Huawei will have an opportunity to showcase its cutting-edge technology in a practical application, while GAC can leverage Huawei’s expertise to enhance the functionality and appeal of its new high-end car brand.

The formation of this new company is also likely to make waves in China’s burgeoning electric vehicle market. With its vast consumer base and strong push toward green technology, China has become a key player in the global EV industry.

On top of that, GAC’s move to enter the high-end car segment aligns with the increasing demand for premium EVs, driven by both domestic consumers and international buyers looking for sophisticated, tech-laden vehicles. GAC’s investment reflects its commitment to pushing forward in this rapidly changing automotive landscape.

Of course, one major concern many may have at the moment is the ongoing price wars in China so one would be skeptical as to why Huawei and GAC have chosen to go through with this plan now. Well, perhaps the two have already thought of a plan to combat the price wars and are simply waiting to surprise the whole world with this when they launch their first EV.
