You can now enjoy DeepSeek AI features while driving your Zeekr vehicle
Chinese automakers are rapidly integrating DeepSeek AI capabilities into their vehicles, with notable brands like Geely Auto and Dongfeng leading the way. DeepSeek, which gained attention just before Chinese New Year, offers AI performance comparable to OpenAI’s ChatGPT at a fraction of the cost, making it a strong competitor in the AI space.
Four Chinese brands, Geely, Zeekr, M-Hero and Voyah, are set to incorporate DeepSeek into their models, showcasing the increasing role of AI in the automotive industry. Geely Auto was one of the first to announce integration with DeepSeek. The Geely Xingrui, also known as Preface, has already completed this integration, marking the beginning of a broader shift towards AI-powered car features.
Moreover, Zeekr, Geely’s premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary, confirmed that its cockpit virtual voice assistant, AI Eva, would soon go live with DeepSeek’s R1 model. This integration aims to improve the AI assistant’s ability to interpret vague or unclear user inputs, making it more intuitive and responsive.
Dongfeng, another major player, confirmed that its sub-brand M-Hero would bring DeepSeek R1 to its cockpit infotainment system. The M-917 off-road SUV is expected to receive this update over-the-air (OTA) before the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show in April. Additionally, Voyah, Dongfeng’s other premium brand, is set to launch the first production vehicle with DeepSeek integration.
On top of that, their Zhiyin SUV, also known as Courage, will undergo knowledge distillation training starting 14 February, enhancing the smart cockpit’s capabilities. The integration of DeepSeek AI is part of a broader trend in the Chinese automotive market where companies like XPeng, Li Auto, and Chery have invested heavily in AI assistants and language models.
These developments reflect growing consumer demand for voice-activated and intelligent car features. With DeepSeek supporting both Chinese and English, the AI platform could potentially break language barriers for non-native users in China, further expanding its appeal.
The increasing collaboration between automakers and AI companies signals a future where cars and technology are seamlessly intertwined. As more brands adopt DeepSeek’s capabilities, the line between vehicles and advanced tech will continue to blur, promising a more intelligent and personalized driving experience.
