Zeekr 009 interest shows the growing acceptance of Chinese luxury auto brands
Zeekr arrived in Malaysia just a few months ago. Two models were introduced in Malaysia. The first being the Zeekr 009 luxury people mover (MPV) which was priced from RM349,800 and looking to take away some of the customers from UMW Toyota who were about to buy a brand new Toyota Alphard.
The second was the Zeekr X compact crossover which is priced from RM155,800 and is priced to compete head on with the Geely owned smart#3 electric crossover.
Interestingly, Zeekr is a brand owned by Geely which means the Zeekr X crossover shares its battery technology, platform and more with the smart#3 and also the popular and very quick Volvo EX30 crossover.
To date about 200 units of the 009 and 80 units of the X has been delivered to Malaysian customers and the bookings are still healthy and encouraging which has its immediate rivals a little worried.
Why worried? Well, the selling prices with the given specifications and features has Zeekr at a price advantage. Let us explain further.
The large and luxurious Zeekr 009 MPV pricing starts at RM349,800 for the 7-seater configuration, with the 6-seater priced slightly higher at RM359,800 (less seats but costs more). The petrol powered Toyota Alphard is priced at RM538k (has full import duties included and Zeekr has NO import duties as it is an electric vehicle)
Meanwhile, the Zeekr X crossover is in Malaysian showrooms in two variants which is the Premium rear wheel drive variant at RM155,800 and the Flagship AWD twin motor variant which is priced at RM172,800. The smart#3 is priced from RM175,000 for the PRO to RM215,000 for the PREMIUM which means it is about RM20k more.
