A recent study examining over 250 used electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia has revealed promising findings regarding battery health, even after substantial usage. The research highlights that EV batteries retain impressive capacity, even in high-mileage vehicles. On average, EVs with more than 75,000 miles (120,000 km) on the odometer still maintained around 90 percent of their battery health.
Additionally, vehicles with lower mileage showed even better performance. Key Findings from the Study state that EVs with a mileage range of 25,000 to 50,000 miles (40,000 to 80,000km) retained an average of 94.6 percent of their original battery health.
Moreover, low-mileage EVs, under 12,500 miles (20,000 km), showed exceptional results, with battery retention up to 98.2 percent. Among the manufacturers studied, Hyundai and BYD emerged as leaders in battery health retention, outperforming Tesla in this regard.
Hyundai’s vehicles, in particular, demonstrated the highest retention rate, with an impressive 99.31 perxent battery health, further boosting the confidence of potential buyers. These results are reassuring for consumers who are considering purchasing a used EV, as they demonstrate that electric vehicle batteries can continue to perform well over time, even with significant mileage.
