New Hyundai IONIQ 6 Going For As Low AS RM129K!

All-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models are on deep discount in Malaysia.

The Hyundai IONIQ series of electric vehicles have been extremely successful in the West and in many markets. This is mostly because of the bold design choices they’ve taken but also because these cars drive well and have premium touches and specifications without premium pricing. Sure, in Malaysia where brand value and every Ringgit matters, it’s the big names from China and the US that are dominating the sales market. That doesn’t mean that these Korean EVs aren’t worth considering. In fact, for the right price, they present EXCELLENT value for money. This morning Daniel found listings on mudah.my that showed IONIQ 6 going for as low as RM115,888 pre-owned.

We contacted the dealer who posted the original listing to confirm details and here’s what we know. The pre-owned IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models are all sold out at his dealership which is located along Jalan Genting Klang, Setapak. What’s left are the some new units but even these are priced exceptionally well.

Essentially the IONIQ 5 Lite models go for as low as RM135,888, the IONIQ 5 Plus models are RM155,888 and the IONIQ 5 Max models are RM175,888. As for the IONIQ 6 models, the Lite RWD starts at RM128,888 and the Plus RWD goes for RM148,888. For context, the IONIQ 5 was introduced with pricing ranging from RM199,888 to RM259,888. The IONIQ 6 was launched with a pricetag of RM219,888 for the LITE variant and RM249,888 for the Max variant.

What’s the catch? Well, these are all new old stock models, so they were manufactured in 2024. Traditionally, a year older on the grant translates to slightly worse resale value when it comes time to sell the car but EVs tend to have terrible resale value anyway, so this shouldn’t be too much of a factor. The thing we would check is the manufacturer warranty. If it only starts from the date of registration, then there’s nothing to worry about, but if it runs from the date of manufacture, it’s something to think about. Besides that, well, there’s just the age and specifications of the car. This massive discount brings the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 much closer to the most popular EV products like the BYD Atto 3 and Seal.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Car Review

It should be noted that the BYD products use LFP batteries while these Hyundais use lithium ion batteries. LFP batteries tend to retain their health over many full charges but they’re not as energy dense as lithium ion batteries, meaning worse range on a full charge. That being said, the charging speed of most of these Hyundai vehicles are quite respectable compared to their Chinese counterparts, so there’s no shortage of pros and cons. If you’re already in the market for an EV and are just looking for the best deal you can get, these cars should be on your radar.
