Last year, the Proton X50 got a ‘Running Change’. It looks like the facelift is already around the corner.
It looks like the Proton X50 facelift model is right around the corner. A fully-camouflaged model was seen roaming public roads though the only photo we have on hand is one taken from the rear.
The Proton X50 has been a rather successful product for the company. It competes in the popular B-segment crossover space, delivering Geely-engineering quality at a reasonable price. In terms of equipment, a pain point has been the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but this never hindered its success in terms of sales.
Last year, Proton released a ‘Running Change’ model. Though it looked almost identical to the original X50, the infotainment unit was upgraded. It solved the X50’s biggest weakness but it was still criticised for being such a minor upgrade.
Still, we’re sure many hundreds or even thousands of customers bought an X50 following this Running Change model. Will they regret not having waited just another year for this potential facelift? Well, it’s too early to tell. Perhaps Proton intends to keep testing this vehicle until the end of the year and may only release it next year.
Most rumours point towards this being based in the Geely Binyue L and featuring a four cylinder engine. The new engine might necessitate extensive testing, so we may need to wait until 2025 for the official vehicle launch.
