Denza D9 Arrives To Challenge Recon Alphards And Zeekr 009

Denza D9 takes aim at the recon luxury MPV segment with just battery power

The reconditioned used luxury MPV segment is booming and it is the Toyota Alphard from Japan that leads the segment with used prices from a low RM288k to RM388k. We have test driven a brand new Alphard unit from UMW Toyota and just loved it but it costs a hefty RM538,000 because it is brand new and is subjected to full import duties.

So, now comes rivals from China and they are all electric. Tax Free (because they are electric) right now and filled to the brim in cabin technology, its selling prices are very tempting as it is side by side with used recon Alphards that have no after sales and also no factory warranty. Yes, no factory warranty on a high technology vehicle costing RM300k or so and yet so many Malaysians are willing to pay a high price.

Surprising right?

Meanwhile, the two new electric MPV’s on offer right now come with factory warranty and factory after sales which is important for new technology vehicles.

First to arrive was the Zeekr 009 which is priced from RM349,800 to RM359,800. Then there is the Denza D9 which is estimated at RM300k or so (price confirmation next week).

The Zeekr 009 stands out with a more futuristic design, superior performance, and potentially a more luxurious interior, while the Denza D9 might offer a more conventional aesthetic and a slightly better value proposition with its pricing.

Both are considered high-end electric MPVs with spacious cabins and advanced features, but the Zeekr 009 tends to be seen as the more “high tech” with a focus on cutting-edge technology and aggressive acceleration.

Key Differences:

Design:

The Zeekr 009 has a bolder, more futuristic design with distinctive LED lighting and a sleek profile, whereas the Denza D9 looks more traditional with a large chrome grille and a slightly conservative exterior.

Performance:

The Zeekr 009 generally boasts superior performance metrics like faster acceleration due to its powerful electric motors (shared with Lotus EVs), potentially making it feel more dynamic compared to the Denza D9.

Interior Luxury:

Both vehicles offer luxurious interiors, but some reviewers note the Zeekr 009 might have a slight edge in terms of materials and advanced tech features, depending on the trim level.

Price:

The Denza D9 might be slightly more affordable (estimated price of RM300k only) than the Zeekr 009 in Malaysia, making it a more value-oriented choice for some buyers.

Zeekr 009 Target Market:

  • Drivers looking for a futuristic design with a strong emphasis on performance and advanced technology.
  • Individuals who prioritize a luxurious interior and cutting-edge features.

Denza D9 Target Market:

  • Buyers seeking a more conventional, elegant design with a strong focus on comfort and space.
  • Individuals who prioritize value for money and are looking for a well-equipped luxury MPV at a slightly more accessible price point.
