Chery and Legenda Beringin are ready to make EVs a big business in Malaysia
Legenda Beringin Holding Sdn Bhd (Legenda Beringin) and Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Chery) have officially marked the groundbreaking of the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park, a major development within the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley (Beringin HTA Valley).
This collaboration signifies a monumental leap towards enhancing Malaysia’s and Selangor’s stature as a hub for cutting-edge automotive manufacturing and technological innovation. The agreement signing took place with the esteemed presence of His Highness Tengku Amir Shah, Raja Muda of Selangor and Royal Patron of Invest Selangor, alongside Yang Berhormat (YB) Tuan Ng Sze Han, the Selangor EXCO for Investment, Trade, and Mobility.
Moreover, the ceremonial groundbreaking was also attended by Chery Automobile Co., Ltd Chairman Yin Tongyue, Chery International President Zhang Guibing, Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice President Leo Chen, and Legenda Beringin executives, including Chairman Chia Song Kooi and Co-Chairman Ng Sai Bee.
The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is part of the first phase of the 800-acre Beringin HTA Valley, a transformative project aimed at attracting global investments, innovation, and talent. The park spans 200 acres and will feature world-class automotive manufacturing facilities and advanced technologies.
It is also projected to complete by 2026, with an initial production capacity of 100,000 vehicles annually, scaling up to 300,000 vehicles per year. The total investment in the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park is estimated at RM2.2 billion over five years.
On top of that, this significant development aligns with the Beringin HTA Valley’s vision of becoming an integrated automotive hub, fostering innovation, vocational training, and technological advancement. The remaining land area will accommodate further developments that support the automotive ecosystem, including supply chain infrastructure.
Chery Holding Group Co., Ltd, a Fortune Global 500 company, has consistently demonstrated its confidence in Selangor’s industrial ecosystem. Chery’s investment in the Smart Auto Industrial Park is expected to create high-value job opportunities, bolster Malaysia’s position as an ASEAN automotive leader, and contribute to a robust supply chain.
What’s more, the facility will house a cutting-edge research and development center, driving advancements in electric vehicle (EV) technologies, including internal combustion engine (ICE), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and energy-efficient vehicles (EEV). Legenda Beringin Chairman Chia Song Kooi expressed gratitude for the support from Chery and local authorities, reinforcing the shared ambition to turn this project into a reality.
With strategic investments like the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park, Selangor is poised to become a leading destination for high-tech automotive manufacturing, further elevating Malaysia’s position in the global automotive industry.
