Now JAECOO SUVs are ready to be enjoyed by more countries in Southeast Asia
Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Chery) is set to begin exporting vehicles to the Southeast Asia (SEA) market in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion plans. This move aligns with Chery’s vision to establish Malaysia as its production hub for the region. Chery will become the first Chinese automaker to start exporting vehicles from Malaysia, reinforcing the country’s position in the global automotive industry.
According to Leo Chen, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia, “Chery is making strong progress towards establishing Malaysia as our key production and research and development (R&D) hub in Southeast Asia. By expanding our exporting capabilities, we are enhancing our production capacity to meet the growing demand in the region.”
Moreover, he added, “We are excited to contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth, develop local talent, and strengthen our supply chain. We are confident that Malaysia will become a leading export hub for Chery vehicles, including our premium sub-brand, JAECOO.”
The first phase of exports will focus on JAECOO Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) SUVs and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), with exports initially targeting Vietnam. This will be followed by the introduction of additional models and brands in the SEA region. Chery plans to expand exports to Thailand, Brunei, The Philippines and Singapore, further solidifying its presence in Southeast Asia.
The production of vehicles for export to SEA markets will also be supported by Chery Corporate Malaysia’s production facility in Shah Alam, Selangor. To accommodate future growth and scalability, Chery has established strategic partnerships with local assembly plants across Malaysia, ensuring efficient manufacturing and supply chain processes.
On top of that, this expansion builds on Chery’s impressive growth trajectory. In 2024, the Chery Group achieved record-breaking annual sales of over 2.6 million vehicles, marking a 38.4 percent year-on-year increase. Exports also saw significant growth, with 1.1 million units exported, an increase of 21.4 percent compared to 2023.
Chery’s Southeast Asia Expansion is a clear demonstration of the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, innovative vehicles while contributing to the growth of Malaysia’s automotive sector.
With the continued success of its JAECOO sub-brand and future plans for the region, Chery is positioning itself as a major player in the SEA automotive market, with Malaysia as its key strategic hub for production and exports.
