Tesla Cybertruck Explodes Outside Las Vegas Hotel, Driver Killed

This Cybertruck explosion happened right outside Trump Las Vegas Hotel too

A Tesla Cybertruck exploded in flames outside the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday, killing the driver and injuring seven others. The FBI has launched an investigation to determine whether the explosion was an act of terrorism, according to officials.

Witnesses captured video footage of the incident, showing the Cybertruck engulfed in flames just outside the hotel entrance. The explosion occurred just hours after another tragic incident in New Orleans, where a truck plowed into a crowd of New Year’s Day revelers, killing 15 people.

Moreover, the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, part of the Trump Organization, is a significant property, and its owner, President-elect Donald Trump, is set to return to the White House on 20 January. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is also an advisor to the incoming president. These connections have raised additional questions about the nature of the explosion.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department addressed the media, emphasizing the need for answers. “Obviously a Cybertruck, the Trump hotel – there’s lots of questions that we have to answer,” he said at a press conference.

FBI special agent Jeremy Schwartz later spoke to reporters, noting that the cause of the explosion was still under investigation.  While the FBI has not confirmed the event as a terrorist attack, Schwartz acknowledged the public’s interest in such a possibility, stating that the agency was working hard to clarify the situation.

On top of that, Elon Musk responded to the incident, stating that the explosion was unrelated to the Cybertruck itself. Musk clarified that the blast was caused by large fireworks or possibly a bomb, which had been stored in the vehicle’s bed. The explosion killed the driver of the 2024 model Cybertruck, while seven others sustained minor injuries.

Two of the injured were transported to local hospitals. Both the Cybertruck involved in the explosion and the vehicle used in the New Orleans attack were rented through the car-sharing service Turo. The explosion occurred at around 8:40 a.m. local time, and police were already on alert due to the recent events in New Orleans.

Eric Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, confirmed the incident in a post on X, noting that the fire had occurred in the porte cochère, the covered entrance area of the hotel. Las Vegas firefighters quickly responded, putting out the flames within minutes. We got all this from Reuters and their full article is linked here. Thank you Reuters for the information and images.
