Renault Twingo E-Tech Is Shaping Up To Be A Fun Looking Euro EV

The Renault Twingo E-Tech prototype promises some mini electric european fun.

While European legacy car makers have been struggling to make competitively-priced electric vehicles to fight off newer Chinese marques, we’re seeing signs of progress in the right direction. The latest Renault Twingo E-Tech prototype is one such propect and it could be the perfect fun replacement to the Renault Zoe that is badly needed to keep the company competitive. Who knows, TC Euro Cars may even find a use-case for it here.

Though the Twingo E-Tech was first shown last year, we’re only now getting a reveal of the car’s interior. The Renault Twingo E-Tech electric prototype’s interior combines nostalgic design elements with modern functionality, showcasing what buyers can expect from the production model launching in 2026. The show car’s cabin pays homage to the first-generation Twingo while introducing contemporary features and sustainable materials.

Modern Tech Meets Classic Design

The dashboard features a suspended, cylindrical design that creates an airy feel while incorporating essential modern technology. A 7-inch digital instrument panel and 10.1-inch central multimedia screen provide connectivity and entertainment, featuring unique graphics that enhance the dynamic driving experience. The iconic red hazard warning light button, housed in a translucent bubble, serves as a deliberate throwback to the original Twingo’s interior styling.

Practical Storage Solutions

The Twingo E-Tech’s interior maximizes space efficiency with clever storage solutions throughout the cabin. Under-dashboard compartments and between-seat storage areas accommodate bags and everyday items, while a full-width shelf beneath the cylindrical dashboard provides easy access to phones, books, and personal items for all passengers.

Innovative Materials and Upholstery

Interior upholstery draws inspiration from the first-generation Twingo’s vibrant patterns, coordinating with the exterior body color through subtle accents on the front door panels and passenger-side dashboard. The prototype features an innovative tinted cork floor material, chosen for its durability and sustainability.

Versatile Passenger and Cargo Space

True to the Twingo’s DNA, the new electric prototype prioritizes adaptability with a sliding rear bench that splits 50/50. This configurable setup allows owners to maximize either passenger legroom or cargo capacity as needed. Five-door accessibility ensures easy entry and exit, while a panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with natural light, enhancing the sense of spaciousness.

Creative Passenger-Focused Features

Thoughtful details enhance the passenger experience, including magnetic phone mounts integrated into the front headrests for rear passengers’ use. An elastic strap doubles as both a map pocket and water bottle holder, while the seatback adjustment knob features a skateboard wheel-inspired design that references the car’s urban character.

Platform and Pricing Strategy

Built on the AmpR small platform, the Twingo E-Tech electric prototype represents Renault’s commitment to affordable electric mobility. Developed by Ampere in just two years, the production version aims to achieve a starting price below €20,000 when it launches in Europe, positioning it as an accessible entry point to Renault’s expanding electric vehicle lineup.

Design Evolution

Since its initial debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the prototype has undergone several refinements, including:

  • Addition of a functional front air intake
  • Reduced rear wheel arch extensions
  • Redesigned black bumpers with 3D-printed honeycomb patterns
  • Modified rear light design
  • Integration of a quarterlight near the rearview mirror
  • Removal of illuminated door handle surrounds

Whether or not the Renault Twingo E-Tech proves to be successful will ultimately be more a question of price than design. We’re all waiting for a competitive small European EV and let’s hope this is the one.
