PUSPAKOM Requests Assistance For Information On Detached Truck Tire Accident

If you know anything at all about this fatal accident, please share it with PUSPAKOM

PUSPAKOM is urging the public to come forward with any dash cam footage or information regarding the whereabouts of a truck tire that detached during a fatal accident at the Ayer Keroh toll intersection on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) in Melaka on 23 December 2024.

The tire, which played a crucial role in the incident, was found to have caused significant damage, and authorities are seeking any information that could assist in the investigation. Mahmood Razak Bahman, the Chief Executive Officer of PUSPAKOM, expressed the hope that information gathered from the public could help shed light on the cause of the fatal crash.

Moreover, he stated, “I appeal to anyone who has dash cam footage taken before, during, or after the accident, particularly footage showing the moment the tire was removed from the accident site, to come forward and submit the footage to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). This evidence is vital to support the investigation, ensuring that the families of the victims and the public receive a clear resolution and understanding of this tragic event.”

According to the preliminary inspection report by PUSPAKOM, the truck involved in the accident was a Foton model, and the detached tire had a 22.5-inch rim, weighing approximately 100 kilograms. The tire is believed to have detached due to a fault in the stub axle, blocking the highway at the time of the accident, as confirmed by the truck driver and witnesses.

PUSPAKOM has also completed its vehicle inspection report, which has been submitted to the Malaysia Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). However, the missing tire could not be examined as it has not yet been located. ANyone with any information regarding the tire’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact PDRM or PUSPAKOM directly at 03-5101 7000.

On top of that, PUSPAKOM also commented on the recent remand of a suspect involved in an investigation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM). Mahmood expressed hopes that this development would help uncover a syndicate allegedly controlling vehicle inspection practices.

This public appeal highlights the ongoing commitment of PUSPAKOM to improving road safety and preventing further accidents caused by vehicle maintenance issues. Again, we here at DSF also urge anyone with any dashcam footage or information to come forward and help PUSPAKOM out.
