Can Perodua set new sales and production standards again in 2025?
In 2024, Perodua set a new milestone by selling a record-breaking 358,102 vehicles, surpassing its previous high of 330,325 vehicles in 2023. This achievement marks an 8.4 percent increase in sales year-on-year, solidifying Perodua’s position as a leading player in the Malaysian automotive market.
With these numbers, Perodua has not only broken its own records but also continued to drive growth within the automotive sector. In terms of production, Perodua also achieved its highest ever volume, producing 368,100 vehicles in 2024. This impressive figure represents a 7.2 percent increase from the previous record of 343,400 vehicles set in 2023.
Moreover, the company’s production exceeded its installed capacity of 320,000 units, demonstrating remarkable operational efficiency and a strong ability to scale production to meet rising demand. Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, expressed his pride in the company’s performance, saying, “We have expanded far beyond our installed capacity of 320,000 units, showcasing dynamic synchronisation in meeting our shared objectives.”
“This achievement shows our true potential and will be the benchmark for the industry in the years to come,” he added. He also acknowledged the collaborative effort of the entire Perodua team, highlighting how quality and quantity could go hand in hand when communication and coordination are prioritized.
On a broader scale, Perodua also captured an impressive 44 percent share of the total industry volume (TIV), which exceeded 814,000 units in 2024. This share reinforces Perodua’s role as the main growth driver in the automotive sector last year. In the final quarter of 2024 (October to December), Perodua registered 97,741 vehicles, a slight 0.7 percent increase from 97,098 vehicles in the same period in 2023.
On top of that, December 2024 saw a 3.2 percent increase in sales, with 32,202 vehicles sold compared to 31,210 units in December 2023. The company’s after-sales division also showed significant growth, with a 9.7 percent increase in vehicle intake, reaching a total of 3.4 million vehicles in 2024 compared to 3.1 million in 2023.
Looking ahead, Dato’ Sri Zainal expressed confidence in Perodua’s ability to face new challenges and opportunities in 2025, despite increased competition from newer automotive brands.
He thanked shareholders, the government, vendors, dealers, the finance sector and especially customers for their continued support, emphasizing that Perodua would continue striving to exceed expectations in the future. To all Malaysians, he added, “We wish to thank you for your trust in us, and we will do our best to exceed your expectations on what we are capable of.”
