Jaecoo J6 E-Cube Shown At Singapore Motor Show, Is Malaysia Next?

The Jaecoo J6 E-Cube EV could be the EV SUV Malaysians want?

At the Singapore Motor Show, Jaecoo, Chery’s premium off-road-focused brand, unveiled the all-electric J6 E-Cube. Will it make its debut in the Malaysian market? Positioned as a more youthful alternative to the J7 and J8 models, the J6 is designed to lead the charge in electric mobility, offering a rugged yet modern SUV experience.

The J6, initially introduced in China as the iCar 03, features a distinctive design with vertical “i” daytime running lights and unique fractal edges on the taillights. Although the vehicle at the Autoshow still bore the iCar brand’s ‘i’ logo, earlier prototypes in China displayed more prominent Jaecoo branding.

Moreover, its bold, boxy shape and compact size, 4,406mm long, 1,910mm wide, and 1,715mm tall, remind one of the Suzuki Jimny, but with a more substantial presence on the road due to its larger dimensions. The J6 is offered with multiple powertrain options.

The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant produces 184PS and 220Nm of torque, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version combines front and rear motors for a total output of 279PS and 385Nm. It comes with three lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options, providing a range between 401km to 501km, depending on the model and battery size.

The Jaecoo J6 also supports DC fast charging, which allows for a 30-80 percent charge in just 30 minutes, though AC charging is limited to a slower 6.6 kW. The highest-specification versions with the longest range are expected to be available here in Malaysia. Inside, the J6 offers a rugged yet refined cabin, with Land Rover-inspired design elements such as a black-and-white color scheme, exposed bolts, and metallic trim.

On top of that, the tech-focused interior includes a 9.2-inch digital instrument display, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, and a 50-watt wireless charger. It also offers an optional 12-speaker Infinity sound system and a panoramic glass roof.

As Jaecoo’s first all-electric vehicle that may debut in Malaysia, the J6 is an exciting addition to the electric vehicle market, offering a fresh alternative to conventional, softer electric SUVs. It is expected to launch after the J7, which will debut soon, and will be showcased at various customer engagement events ahead of its official release.
