The BMW iX gets a major update with more power and range, plus a design tweak.
BMW has unveiled a comprehensive update to its flagship electric SUV, the iX, bringing significant improvements in performance, range, and efficiency across the model lineup. The refreshed BMW iX features more powerful electric motors, enhanced battery technology, and subtle design changes while maintaining its distinctive presence in the luxury electric vehicle segment.

Increased Performance Across All Variants
The 2025 BMW iX lineup receives substantial power upgrades across all three variants. The entry-level iX xDrive45 now produces 408 hp, an increase of 82 hp, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.1 seconds. The mid-range iX xDrive60 gets a modest boost to 544 hp, while the range-topping iX M70 xDrive now delivers an impressive 659 hp and around 1099Nm of torque in Sport mode, making it even more formidable as BMW’s electric performance flagship.
Class-Leading Range Improvements
Perhaps the most significant enhancement comes in the form of improved range. The iX xDrive60 now achieves up to 700km on the WLTP cycle, marking a substantial 40% increase over its predecessor. This improvement positions the iX among the longest-range electric vehicles in its segment. The entry-level xDrive45 and high-performance M70 variants also see notable range improvements, capable of up to 601 and 600 km respectively.

Advanced Battery Technology
The range improvements are achieved through several technological advancements, including new battery cell technology and an optimized battery management system. The iX xDrive45’s battery capacity has increased by 30% to 94.8 kWh, while the xDrive60 and M70 variants feature larger 109.1 kWh and 108.9 kWh batteries respectively.
Enhanced Charging Capabilities
Charging capabilities have also been upgraded, with the BMW iX xDrive45 now supporting DC fast charging at up to 175 kW, while the xDrive60 and M70 models can charge at up to 195 kW. This allows for a 10-80% charge in approximately 35 minutes. The vehicle also introduces Plug & Charge Multi Contract functionality, allowing users to store up to five charging contracts for seamless authentication at compatible charging stations.

Refined Exterior Design
The exterior receives subtle but meaningful updates, including a redesigned BMW kidney grille featuring a new pattern of vertical and diagonal lines. The grille now incorporates a self-healing polyurethane coating that can repair light scratches within 24 hours at room temperature. The headlights have been slimmed down and feature new vertical LED units for daytime running lights and turn indicators.
Interior Updates and New Technology
Inside, the iX maintains its minimalist design while introducing new features and materials. For the first time, an M Sport package is available, bringing sporty touches like an M leather steering wheel, M-specific displays, and distinctive interior trim elements. New M multifunction seats are available, offering enhanced lateral support and multiple adjustment options.

Improved Efficiency Features
The updated iX incorporates several efficiency-enhancing measures, including a new heat pump function and optimized thermal management for the battery. The vehicle’s aerodynamics have been refined, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.25, while new wheel designs and A+ rated tires contribute to reduced energy consumption.
Sustainability Focus
BMW continues to emphasize sustainability with the updated iX. The electric motors are designed without rare earth elements, and the vehicle features extensive use of recycled materials throughout. The 21- and 22-inch wheels are made from 70% recycled aluminum, and the interior includes recyclable materials for floor mats and panels.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
The refreshed iX comes standard with an enhanced suite of driver assistance features, including the latest version of Driving Assistant Plus. The optional Highway Assistant allows for hands-free driving at speeds up to 81 mph on suitable highways in certain markets.
