Will Malaysia be able to get the Toyota Urban Cruiser at a good price?
The all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser made its debut at the Brussels Motor Show, AutoSalon/Salon de l’Auto 2025, held from 10 to 19 January at Brussels Expo. As the latest addition to Toyota’s expanding range of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Urban Cruiser enters one of the fastest-growing and most competitive segments in the European automotive market.
Pre-orders for this exciting new model are now open in select markets, with first customer deliveries expected to begin in late summer 2025. A bold, compact SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser combines advanced electric powertrains with a distinctive “Urban Tech” design that reflects its robust SUV identity.
Moreover, its striking front features the signature “hammerhead” look and slim headlight units, hallmark design elements of Toyota’s latest generation. The SUV’s strong rear quarters, complemented by a wrap-around rear light bar, convey strength and stability, emphasizing its SUV character.
In terms of size, the Urban Cruiser is slightly larger than the Yaris Cross, offering a compact yet spacious footprint. A tight 5.2-meter turning radius ensures excellent maneuverability, making it perfect for urban driving. Inside, the Urban Cruiser maximizes space thanks to its 2,700mm wheelbase and flexible sliding rear seats.
On top of that, built on a lightweight, purpose-designed platform for BEVs, the Toyota Urban Cruiser is equipped with a flat floor that increases cabin space and optimizes battery placement. Customers can choose from two battery options, both using durable and cost-efficient lithium-iron phosphate technology.
The 49-kWh battery, offering 144hp, is available exclusively with front-wheel drive (FWD). The larger 61-kWh battery is available with both FWD and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, providing 174hp in FWD and 135 kW (184 DIN hp) in AWD versions.
What’s more, the AWD model features an additional 48 kW motor on the rear axle and is equipped with Downhill Assist Control, along with Trail and Snow modes for enhanced performance in challenging conditions.
Safety is a top priority for the Toyota Urban Cruiser, which comes standard with an extensive range of active safety features, including pre-collision assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure alert. Inside, a fully digital cockpit offers a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen, both seamlessly integrated into a single, sleek unit. The vehicle supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy smartphone connectivity.
