Will This Toyota Urban Cruiser Come To ASEAN?

Toyota planning to phase out other models in favour of the Urban Cruiser in ASEAN?

Toyota has unveiled the all-new Urban Cruiser, a compact battery electric SUV designed to stand out with its bold design, spacious interior, and advanced technology. Developed from the Urban SUV Concept, the Urban Cruiser will strengthen Toyota’s presence in Europe’s rapidly growing EV market.

It is part of Toyota’s broader strategy to offer diverse electrified drivetrain technologies, including 15 zero-emission vehicles by 2026, with six built on a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. This expansion, alongside Toyota’s range of hybrid and fuel cell vehicles, aims to reduce emissions and work towards carbon neutrality by 2040.

Moreover, the Urban Cruiser’s design combines a muscular, SUV-like exterior with sophisticated styling, including a distinctive “hammerhead” front end, powerfully sculpted bumpers, and a wide rear light design.

It has compact dimensions, just barely larger than the Yaris Cross, measuring 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height. With a turning radius of just 5.2 meters, it offers excellent maneuverability. Exterior color options include bi-tone choices, featuring a contrasting black roof.

Inside, the Urban Cruiser is also built for comfort and flexibility. The longer wheelbase provides extra cabin space, especially with a sliding rear seat system that allows for greater passenger comfort or extended load space. The interior boasts a clean, open design with a low instrument panel and high seating positions.

On top of that, ambient lighting offers 12 customizable colors to enhance the cabin’s atmosphere. The seats also feature a 40:20:40 split-folding configuration and can be reclined for added versatility.

The Urban Cruiser offers multiple powertrain options, including two battery sizes, namely, a 49kWh version with 144hp in a front-wheel drive configuration, and a 61kWh version offering 174hp, also in a front-wheel drive configuration and 184hp in an all-wheel drive setup.

All models are equipped with an energy-saving heat pump and a manually operated battery pre-heating system to optimize performance in cold conditions. The vehicle is built on a new BEV platform that maximizes interior space while safeguarding high-voltage components.

What’s more, the AWD model includes a 48kW motor on the rear axle, enhancing traction and stability on slippery surfaces, with features like Downhill Assist Control and Trail Mode for improved off-road performance.

Technology is a key feature, with all models including advanced safety and driver assistance systems, such as pre-collision alerts, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alerts, and a 360-degree camera. The 10.25-inch digital display and 10.1-inch multimedia screen are integrated into a single unit, offering intuitive operation and cloud-based navigation.
