KLIMS 2024 is on and the biggest automotive names are missing from the exhibition. Why?
They say it is most supported automotive show in Malaysia but the biggest brands in the world and then some are not participating. Even Dongfeng, Jaecoo, Lotus, Bentley, Chery, Peugeot, Hyundai, Suzuki, Lamborghini, McLaren, Renault, Aston Martin, Range Rover and countless motorcycle brands are not showing their latest models and concepts at this show which returns after a long 6 year absence.
Part of the reason could be because there were too many other auto shows in Malaysia this past 11 months and the KLIMS ‘strategic partner’ MARii had their own show earlier this year and they are having another one in May 2025 which is just 5 months away and all automotive brands in Malaysia seeking tax incentives will be forced to participate in the MARii organised show …. or else their incentives will be questioned, reduced and or delayed.
With KLIMS 2024, there is no hidden agenda and no ‘push’ to participate and it is purely voluntary.
So, by our rough count, about 50 percent of the Malaysian automotive brands are participating and the rest and sitting happy with the fact that they do not need to get into this show.
Meanwhile, while KLIMS 2024 is on, Jaecoo Malaysia is launching the Jaecoo Omoda C9 premium SUV at a location in Ampang, KL. Why not at KLIMS.
Incidentally, Porsche Malaysia launched their electric Macan just a week ago. Why not at KLIMS 2024?
Lets not forget Italauto launching their all new Ferrari 12Cilindri (or Dodici Cilindri in full Italian) in Sepang and not at KLIMS 2024. Priced from RM4.7 million this car would have been a crowd pulling exhibit at KLIMS 2024.
Also, just a week ago Bentley launched their RM3.7 million Bentley Bentayga Umbra and Aston Martin unveiled the RM5 million and some change, Aston Martin Vanquish. Both cars were launched at their premium showrooms in the heart of KL city.
Finally, there has been mentions on social media that Denza (luxury brand of BYD) is coming to Malaysia early next year and the first product to be introduced is the Denza luxury MPV. KLIMS 2024 would have been a great platform to introduce the Denza brand and the Denza luxury MPV.
Well, this is just our two cents and it is disappointing that KLIMS 2024, like all the other auto shows in recent months have been ‘half’ filled and only ‘half interesting. Is worth the effort and money to visit?
