We got the Perodua eMO concept not too long ago and now it has a new design
Our national pride and joy, Perodua unveiled its latest prototype, the eMO-II (pronounced M-O-2), at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024), marking the next step in its electric vehicle (EV) journey. Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, emphasized that the eMO-II represents the continued evolution of the company’s EV technology, building upon its predecessor with improved styling and features.
The eMO-II features a modern design inspired by Malaysian culture, incorporating elements of the traditional ‘songket’ fabric, seamlessly blending them with contemporary LED lighting. “This prototype is just the beginning, and many more features and improvements will be added as we move toward launching the final product,” Dato’ Sri Zainal noted, indicating that the model is still under development.
Moreover, the eMO-II is the result of a fully in-house development process by Perodua’s Research and Development team, which began in 2023. The team faced a steep learning curve while working with various consultants to understand the complexities of EV technology.
Despite the challenges, Dato’ Sri Zainal expressed pride in the team’s ability to meet their timeline and continue progressing on this project. He also shared that Perodua is collaborating with several Malaysian corporations to ensure “greater mobility” for all customers.
This includes addressing all aspects of EV ownership, from vehicle efficiency to ease of use, and ensuring the supporting infrastructure is provided by leading Malaysian companies. Dato’ Sri Zainal also extended gratitude to the Malaysian government, particularly the Prime Minister and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), for their support of the EV project, which helps strengthen the Malaysian automotive ecosystem.
On top of that, he emphasized that electrification is not just a shift in driving technology, but a critical step in combating climate change by reducing the carbon footprint. Perodua is committed to this mission and aims to contribute to a more sustainable future.
In addition to the eMO-II, Perodua also showcased its Ativa Fuze concept and highlighted its 30-year journey in the automotive industry at KLIMS 2024. The company invites all Malaysians to visit its booth and experience the exciting innovations and developments firsthand. So show our local carmaker some love and check them out at KLIMS 2024 from 5 to 11 December at MITEC.
