The Jaecoo C9 by Omoda has been introduced to the Malaysian market to close off 2024.
Late last week after KLIMS 2024 wrapped and between our drive with Leapmotor and the brand introduction of Zeekr, Jaecoo also finally launched their 2nd product in Malaysia, the C9. This is a large SUV with premium aspirations and features but the pricing is really attractive with the 2WD model starting at RM168,800 and the AWD model going for RM188,800. Despite having a ‘mass market’ price point, the C9 comes across as a premium product thanks to its design, build quality and features.
Branding of the C9 is a bit confusing though. This is a model sold by Jaecoo but the car bears “Omoda” badges and in the press preview, it was called Jaecoo C9 BY Omoda. Chery Malaysia, the parent company of Jaecoo, sells the Omoda 5 and E5. Plus in China this C9 is actually sold as the Exceed RX. And of course the “cherry” on top of this branding confusion sundae is that Lexus sells a large luxury SUV called the RX.
Ultimately, buyers won’t have to spend time thinking about all of this branding and naming nonsense anyway. The product itself is pretty impressive at least on first impressions. Objectively speaking, Malaysians aren’t even accustomed to getting a car of this size for under RM200,000 brand new.
Here are the measurements:
- 1,671mm in height
- 1,920mm in width
- 4,775mm in length
- 2,800mm wheelbase
- 165mm ground clearance
- 660L boot
- 1,783L boot with seats folded down
This puts it in the upper tier of the 5-seater SUV category in terms of size. In terms of equipment, it’s pretty impressive as well
They’re not holding back on power either. The C9 gets a 4-cylinder 2.0L turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine with 257 horsepower and 400Nm of torque. As mentioned before there are both 2WD and AWD models available. The AWD model gets Continuous Damping Control and 7 driving modes: economic, standard, sports, snow, mud, sand, and off-road. It’s also worth noting that the 2WD model gets faux leather upholstery while the AWD model gets genuine leather inside.
In terms of equipment, you get dual 12.3″ displays, wireless Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, a speaker in each of the front headrests, ventilated and heated seats, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, a 50W wireless charging pad with ventilation, and an NFC card.
Colour choices include:
- Matte Grey
- Khaki White
- Carbon Crystal Black
All customers will get a 7-year/150,000km mileage and be eligible for the JAECOO Prime Protection Programme (J-PPP). Deliveries are slated to begin in January 2025. The C9 is locally-assembled at Chery Malaysia’s Shah Alam plant.
