The Geely Starray Looks More Like An Electric Vehicle But It is Petrol Powered
First shown in early 2024, this vehicle is another interesting product from Geely which is not yet targeted for a Proton rebadging exercise. We visited the Geely showroom in Slovenia (Europe) and saw the latest version of the Coolray (Proton X50) and Geely Starray on sale and wondered why we Malaysians we not getting these vehicles.
Meanwhile, we see Geely and Proton face-lifting the very popular Proton X50 (Geely Coolray) again to keep middle class Malaysians coming back to Proton showrooms nationwide.
Yes, the latest version of the X50 which was launched on June 4th 2024 has improved cabin connectivity coming from its upgraded ACO Tech system. The system is now 3.3 times faster than what is found in its pre-update predecessor, with 33 percent quicker boot-up and 55 percent speedier loading times than before. Spotify integration is included now.
Meanwhile, in European and Middle Eastern markets, the Geely Starray has been launched offering great space and features. The Starray measures in at 4,670 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,705 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,777 mm. Dimensions that are incidentally just slightly larger than the Proton X70, which comes in at 4,519 mm long, 1,831 mm wide and 1,694 mm tall.
When we opened the doors and looked inside, we liked the 13.2-inch floating central infotainment screen that headlines a dashboard. It features integrated wrap-around ambient lighting with music sync and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Other cool cabin highlights within this Geely SUV includes the usual crop of active driver aids, ventilated front seats, a 9 speaker HARMAN Infinity Deluxe Sound System with speakers built-into its front seat headrests, a Volvo-style diamond-cut crystal gear selector as well as Interstellar Shades.
Meanwhile, this could easily be rebadged as a Proton and called the ‘X60’ perhaps as it sits above the X50.
With the strong push by segment rivals Jaecoo, Chery and GAC, Proton and Geely should and might already be planning the arrival of this handsome looking SUV.

Powered by the 2.0 TD Drive-E Engine that produces 218 hp and 325 Nm of torque, this four-pot drives the front wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and is capable of hustling this Geely to 100km/h from standstill in 8.2 seconds and onwards to a 215 km/h top speed.
