First National EV, Proton e.MAS 7 Nets 5 Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating

The Proton e.MAS 7 proves its credentials with an overall 92.57 ASEAN NCAP points

The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has released its final 2024 assessment results, highlighting the performance of the new electric SUV, the Proton e.MAS 7. This marks a significant moment for the Proton brand, as the e.MAS 7 is its first-ever electric vehicle (EV).

The SUV excelled in its evaluation, achieving a 5-Star safety rating with a total score of 92.57 points. In the assessment, the e.MAS 7 scored highly across all categories. It earned 39.00 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.32 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP), 20.00 points in the Safety Assist (SA) category and 16.25 points in Motorcyclist Safety (MS).

Moreover, the vehicle comes equipped with numerous standard safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and a Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both front and rear passengers, with seat occupancy detection. 

The Proton e.MAS 7 is fitted with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for both city and inter-urban settings, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Automatic High Beam (AHB), and Pedestrian Protection (PP). Advanced safety features like Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB) are also standard.

In terms of passive safety, the e.MAS 7 also performed well in the crash tests, providing good protection for front occupants, with particular focus on the driver’s lower legs, which received adequate protection. The model also excelled in the COP and MS assessments, scoring highly in most of the evaluated areas. 

On top of that, the e.MAS 7 notably achieved the highest score in the Safety Assist category, reflecting its comprehensive safety features. ASEAN NCAP has praised the e.MAS 7 for offering both active and passive safety technologies as standard across all variants, setting a new benchmark for safety in EVs within the ASEAN region.

The standardization of these features across the entire model lineup ensures that no matter the variant, the vehicle meets high safety standards. ASEAN NCAP expressed satisfaction with PROTON’s commitment to ensuring safety in the e.MAS 7, particularly as consumer interest in EVs continues to rise. 

The brand has focused on delivering robust occupant protection and advanced safety systems. With this 5-Star rating, ASEAN NCAP congratulated Proton for its achievement and emphasized the importance of setting a high safety standard for future vehicles in the region.
