In Malaysia on any given day we see cars abandoned all over the place, in neighborhoods, gated communities and even in car parks. It is a sad sight for us and we are sure for many of you reading this. But here is a rather unusual situation.
So, we have been visiting a friend in one rather above middle class gated and guarded housing area for the past 5 years and have seen three rather expensive vehicles just sitting outside a large expensive house rotting away.
Each vehicle was valuable when we first noticed them 5 years ago with grass growing around them. Worth at least RM150,000 combined at the time (without the price of the single digit plate numbers).
Today, even after some mechanical restoration, combined they will be worth at least RM60,000 or so. Then there is the value of the single digit plate numbers on them. Each worth in the region of RM20,000 upwards at least. So, this is RM120,000 at least just left idle. The owner must be someone very rich to allow this.
So, why are these cars left to rot away, especially popular vehicles that could be sold easily and where is the owner?
Meanwhile, over the years many car workshop owners have had customers bringing their old cars for some major repair and then having in-adequate funds to pay the repair bill and so the cars get parked outside the workshop for months and even years and the workshop has ‘capital’ tied up in these cars. These cars end up rotting away.
