Why Are Parking Lots Being GIVEN To Mamak Shops To use

It is time that someone look seriously into WHY MBPJ Allows mamak restaurants to continue doing this

For years we have seen how many mamak restaurants will take over NOT ONLY parking lots but also the sidewalks in urban areas while the seats inside their restaurants are not fully occupied.

Yes, it is humid and sometimes ‘smelly’ inside, but if the other restaurant and cafe operators can keep their outlets cool and comfortable for patrons to sit inside and enjoy their meals, why can’t the mamak restaurant operators do the same?

Drivers and even motorcyclists already have limited parking spaces in urban areas and now it gets worse as these operators take away much needed parking lots daily and if you happen to be somewhere in the middle of the lot, your car can and will even get scratched a little when they put their tables around your car (see this picture below where the Perodua ARUZ owner has tables and stools around his SUV).

So, why is the MBPJ allowing this?

Also, why is the MBPJ allowing these restaurant operators to use pedestrian walkways to put tables and chairs. When it rains, pedestrians, including older people and children are forced to walk on the road and in the rain which is also very dangerous.

The use of pedestrian walkways by mamak and any other restaurant operator should be STOPPED immediately and we urge the town council and also the Malaysian Anti Corruption agency to look into this before it gets out of hand.

Remember, in November 2018 when a car driver rammed into tables outside a restaurant in Jalan Equine 9B and a 57 year old woman died?

Then there was the driver who drove his SUV into roadside diners along Jalan Klang Lama in March 2022.

Meanwhile, according to Section 9(10) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 and Section 46 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, it is actually illegal to put tables and chairs out on the street.

The local council can confiscate the tables and chairs, as well as impose fines on the businesses but ……. our town councils do not do this regularly enough …… right? Why?
