Malaysian Media Put All-New Nissan KICKS e-POWER To The Test

The Nissan KICKS e-POWER is estimated to start from below RM130,000 too

Automotive journalists and key opinion leaders recently had the opportunity to test the All-New Nissan KICKS e-POWER at a two-day media event organised by Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM). The event showcased the KICKS e-POWER’s performance, emphasising the innovative e-POWER powertrain, which combines a petrol engine to charge a Lithium-ion battery, powering an electric motor that drives the wheels.

This system offers immediate torque and responsive performance similar to an EV, without the need for external charging. The e-POWER system reduces tailpipe emissions by 20 percent and delivers lower running costs, with an average service cost of only RM365. Additionally, the system features regenerative braking and the e-Pedal Step for one-pedal driving.

Moreover, Khoo Cheng Pah, CEO of Edaran Tan Chong Motor, expressed excitement about giving the media a chance to experience the KICKS e-POWER firsthand. He highlighted the system’s ability to deliver electric-like performance without range anxiety, even on winding B-roads.

The global popularity of Nissan’s e-POWER technology is growing, with over 1.5 million units produced worldwide as of October 2024. The KICKS e-POWER, which comes with a 5-year vehicle warranty and an additional 8-year warranty on EV components, marks the latest milestone for this technology in Malaysia.

The Nissan KICKS e-POWER is also designed as a stylish compact SUV with a sporty and modern look. It features a V-Motion front grille, boomerang-shaped LED headlights, and a floating roof design with hidden pillars. The cabin offers a dual-tone dashboard, a 7-inch driver’s display, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and Zero Gravity seats for comfort.

On top of that, the minimalist centre console includes an electronic shift-by-wire selector, drive mode buttons, and an Intelligent Rear View Mirror for improved visibility. Under the hood, the KICKS e-POWER is powered by a second-generation e-POWER system producing 129hp (95 kW) and 280Nm of torque.

It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 180km/h. The vehicle’s fuel economy is impressive at 21.7km/L, providing a cruising range of up to 900km. The KICKS e-POWER’s electric motor is powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine that charges its 2.06 kWh battery.

Safety features include a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating and Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies, such as Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The All-New Nissan KICKS e-POWER will officially launch in December 2024, with an estimated price below RM130,000.
