The Nissan Murano Matures In Its 4th Generation

Malaysians might be surprised by how upmarket the 4th generation Nissan Murano looks.

Many Malaysians will remember a time when the Nissan Murano was offered by Edaran Tan Chong Malaysia and grey market importers as an alternative to the Toyota Harrier. The first generation Murano was extremely popular here and you’ll still find many in the used market. The second generation’s popularity was not quite as high and the third generation was completely not made for the right hand drive market. Now Nissan has shown the 4th generation Murano though it’s still unclear if there will be a right hand drive model this time around. We’re quite sure there won’t be, but here are some key details in case you’re interested.

Design and Dimensions

The 2025 Nissan Murano showcases a sleek and modern exterior design, adhering to Nissan’s “energetic elegance” theme. The new model boasts a significant increase in width, measuring over 66 mm wider than its predecessor. This expanded stance, combined with gracefully flared rear fenders, imparts a powerful presence on the road. The front end features ultra-thin “Crystal Cube” LED headlights flanking a gloss-black trim strip, while LED daytime running lights integrated into the grille create Nissan’s signature V-motion graphic with hints of the new Ariya’s design language in the face.

At the rear, the Murano sports a clean and crisp design with a full-width LED tail light element, creating a distinctive lighting signature. The liftgate design contributes to the vehicle’s streamlined appearance, with the rear wiper housed above the rear window and concealed exhaust tips. Available 21″ wheels on the Platinum grade further enhance the Murano’s premium aesthetic.

Interior and Comfort

The cabin of the new Murano is designed with a focus on modern minimalism and elegance. The horizontal design theme incorporates dual 12.3″ displays seamlessly integrated into the dashboard. High-quality materials, including soft-touch surfaces and stitched accents, elevate the interior ambiance. The Platinum grade offers semi-aniline quilted leather-appointed seats with fine detailing.

Comfort features abound in the 2025 Murano. Available amenities include a panoramic moonroof, heated and ventilated front seats with massage function, a heated steering wheel, and 64-color ambient lighting throughout the cabin. Rear passengers benefit from increased knee room due to a thinner front seat design and a 20.3 mm increase in couple distance. The rear seats now incorporate Nissan’s Zero Gravity design for improved support and comfort.

Cargo capacity stands at 932 liters behind the second row, expanding to 1,798 liters with the 60/40 split flat-folding rear seats lowered.

Technology and Connectivity

The 2025 Murano comes standard with dual 31.2 cm displays – a touchscreen for infotainment and a customizable instrument cluster. Higher trim levels feature Google built-in, offering Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to the Play Store directly from the dashboard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are included on the SV grade and above.

The Murano offers a range of advanced driver assistance features, including ProPILOT Assist and ProPILOT Assist 1.1 on higher trims. These systems aid in highway driving by combining Intelligent Cruise Control with Steering Assist. The SV and Platinum grades utilize navigation data to proactively adjust speed before curves.

New camera technologies enhance the driving experience, including the Invisible Hood View for improved visibility of obstacles in front of the vehicle, and a 3D Around View Monitor offering eight virtual vantage points for easier parking and maneuvering.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the 2025 Murano features a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo (Variable-Compression Turbo) engine. This powertrain delivers 179.7 kW (241 horsepower) and 352.5 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque, representing an increase of 27 Nm compared to the previous generation. The engine is paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission, which includes paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience.

Nissan Murano 4th generation

The Murano is available in both front-wheel drive and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive configurations, with AWD standard on higher trim levels. To enhance ride quality and handling, Nissan has incorporated frequency sensitive dampers in the suspension and adopted electric power steering.

Safety Features

Nissan prioritizes safety in the new Murano, equipping it with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of technologies as standard across all grades. Additional safety enhancements include repositioned side-view mirrors for improved forward visibility and the addition of a passenger knee airbag. Rear-seat safety has been bolstered with under-seat reinforcement and the inclusion of seat belt load limiters and pretensioners for rear passengers.
