Porsche Taycan Turbo GT With Weissach Package Sets 3 Records On 3 Continents

The Porsche Taycan is proof that if anyone can make an EV sporty, its Porsche

Kevin Giek, Vice President of the Taycan Model Line at Porsche, emphasises the distinctive challenges each racetrack presents, showcasing the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package. The goal was to achieve record times on three diverse global circuits. With notable successes in Germany, California, and China, the Taycan has proven its mettle internationally.

Development driver Lars Kern faced unpredictable weather during testing, with intermittent light rain leaving the track damp. Despite these conditions, he praised the Taycan’s balance and performance. Kern highlighted the importance of braking hard before the “snail curve,” a uniquely designed turn that narrows like a snail shell.

Moreover, the ability to accelerate effectively out of this curve is crucial for maintaining speed into subsequent bends. At the track’s fastest point, Kern noted speeds reaching 300km/h, demonstrating the Taycan Turbo GT’s exceptional drivetrain, engineered for maximum traction and performance.

The car’s “attack mode” on the Formula 1 circuit allows a temporary power boost of up to 120 kW for 10 seconds, enhancing its performance during critical moments. For safety, the record-setting vehicle features comprehensive safety gear, including a roll cage and racing bucket seat, which slightly increases its weight.

On top of that, to further improve grip, optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tires were also used for the lap records. Launched in spring 2024, the Taycan Turbo GT and Weissach package model represent Porsche’s commitment to high-performance electric cars. Despite being an electric vehicle (EV), the car is definitely a porsche first and has the pedigree and accolades to prove it too.

These models feature a new pulse inverter with silicon carbide semiconductors on the rear axle, enabling peak power boosts of over 1,100PS. Porsche has also focused on weight reduction; the Taycan Turbo GT is up to 75kg lighter than the Turbo S, thanks to advanced lightweight construction and carbon components.

The Weissach package prioritises track performance, omitting rear seats to enhance the power-to-weight ratio. Both models come standard with Porsche’s Active Ride suspension, specifically tuned for the GT, ensuring excellent road contact during dynamic driving. In Malaysia, the Taycan Turbo GT and Turbo GT with Weissach package are available, starting from RM1,160,000 each, with more details accessible at local Porsche Centres.
