Lexus LX700h: A Hybrid Revolution for Malaysia’s Luxury SUV Market

Lexus LX700h is the first-ever hybrid version of this Japanese luxury off-roader.

The automotive landscape is about to witness a significant shift with the potential arrival of the Lexus LX700h. This groundbreaking hybrid SUV could redefine luxury and efficiency and offer a compelling alternative to its German rival, the all-electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

While Lexus Malaysia has not offered the current generation LX, the introduction of the LX700h could mark a strategic re-entry into the premium full-size SUV segment. The hybrid powertrain, combining a 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine with an electric motor, promises a perfect balance of power and efficiency – a crucial factor for Malaysian consumers increasingly conscious of fuel costs.

One of the most attractive aspects for potential Malaysian buyers is the significant reduction in road tax. The LX700h’s 3.5L V6 engine falls into a much lower tax bracket compared to its predecessor’s 5.7L V8, potentially saving owners over RM3,500 annually in road tax alone. This substantial saving could be a major selling point, especially for luxury car buyers who are mindful of ongoing ownership costs.

The LX700h’s advanced hybrid system is not just about tax savings; it’s a testament to Lexus’s commitment to electrification without compromising the LX’s legendary off-road capabilities. The parallel hybrid system, featuring a motor generator integrated between the engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission, ensures that the LX700h maintains its full-time 4WD system and low-range transfer case – essential features for true off-road enthusiasts.

For Malaysian drivers who enjoy venturing off the beaten path, the LX700h offers impressive capabilities. With a water fording depth of 700mm and specialized off-road driving modes, it’s ready to tackle diverse terrains, from urban jungles to actual jungles.

The introduction of the OVERTRAIL edition further enhances its appeal to adventure seekers, featuring unique styling elements and specialized equipment like front and rear differential locks.

The OVERTRAIL edition also comes with either all-terrain or specialised M+S tyres with rugged tread patterns for more of a focus on on-road or off-road performance.

Inside, the LX700h doesn’t disappoint. The luxurious interior now boasts a 12.3-inch full LCD meter, providing clear, customizable information to the driver. The addition of front refresh seats with massage function in higher-spec models ensures comfort on long journeys, whether navigating through traffic or exploring the countryside.

Safety is paramount in the LX700h, with the latest Lexus Safety System+ offering advanced features like Proactive Driving Assist and an enhanced Pre-Collision Safety system. While hybrid incentives in Malaysia are currently unclear, the LX700h’s efficiency and lower road tax could make it an attractive proposition even without additional government support.
