The Jaecoo J7 has proven just how fuel efficient it is so will Malaysians buy it?
Malaysia has joined an exclusive group of seven nations testing the Jaecoo J7 PHEV in an impressive ultra-long-range driving marathon, spanning from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China. This multinational event included participants from Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, collectively covering over 1,300km on a single tank of fuel and a full battery, all without needing to recharge.
Leo Chen, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia, emphasised the importance of this event in addressing range anxiety, a common concern among electric vehicle (EV) drivers. “By putting the Jaecoo J7 PHEV in the hands of global drivers, we aim to demonstrate the confidence and peace of mind that comes with this vehicle.” He stated.
Moreover, the marathon began on 16 October 2024, and involved a challenging 13-hour drive through diverse environments, from congested urban traffic to national highways and intercity expressways. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV boasts a class-leading electric range of 106km and an impressive fuel consumption rate of just 5.99 litres per 100km when in a power-depleted state.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is set to officially launch in Malaysia by the end of this year. Visually, it shares a striking resemblance to its petrol-powered counterpart, the J7. However, the PHEV variant distinguishes itself with its hybrid engine, impressive range, and DC charging capability, allowing users to power electronic devices like projectors, kettles, or hairdryers, especially during outdoor adventures.
Two variants of the Jaecoo J7 will also be made available for Malaysia, namely an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) version offering seven driving modes, namely Economy, Standard, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-Road, and a Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) variant with three modes, specifically Standard, Sport and Economy.
On top of that, powered by an 18.3kWh battery and a 60-litre fuel tank, the J7 PHEV generates an impressive 525Nm of torque, complemented by a DC charger supporting up to 40 kW. Fans will have a variety of colour options, rim styles, and interior upgrades, enhancing personalization while staying true to the brand’s essence of “From Classic, Beyond Classic.”
Registrations of interest for the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will commence at the preview event from 23 to 27 October at Sunway Pyramid, with deliveries anticipated to begin in February 2025. So be sure to check out this amazing vehicle as soon as you can if you are indeed on the market for a fuel efficient and stylish SUV.
