Now you can download Apple CarPlay to your current model Proton X70
When we speak to people looking to buy a new Proton these last few years (since Geely took over and gave provided complete rebadged vehicles from China), very few of them bring up the issue of the missing Apple CarPlay and Android apps with the Proton models.
In fact, the only issues discussed seem to be after-sales and reliability issues that they have read on social media and remarks from current owners.
As a new and review outlet, we test drive brand new vehicles all the time and we cannot share any personal experience about after-sales and reliability as it can only come from owners after time.
However, with the missing Apple CarPlay and Android apps, we realise that Malaysian customers will still purchase and continue to grumble on social media. So, why purchase? Well, the asking price is way to tempting to ignore. The value proposition on all other points is also way to tempting to ignore.
With the Proton badge and Geely engineering you get ‘plenty’ of ‘car’ for your money (ACOTECH provides many features that rivals don’t have) and this is Proton’s advantage over many of its rivals.
Meanwhile, Proton and Geely management have now negotiated an agreement with Apple ….. finally and you can download Apple CarPlay …… but only with this latest version of the X70 which arrived in Proton showrooms in August 2024.
In case you were wondering, the Apple CarPlay software will be available via a phased over-the-air update (OTA) starting October 16, 2024.
Interestingly, at the same time, PROTON is also launching its Year-End Extravaganza Promotional campaign until 31 December 2024 where special promotions such as rebates up to RM7,000 are on offer! Those who reserve and register a new vehicle will also be entered into a lucky draw to win the grand prize of a PROTON S70 (pictured below).
