Did you know that the Geely Galaxy E5 will be rebadged and sold in Malaysia as the Proton eMAS 7 electric car?
Well, this is not some dated Geely product and instead it is a brand new product which was launched by Geely just recently on August 3rd in Guiyang China.
The Galaxy E5 launch was so successful that the company delivered over 10,000 units within its first 20 days. By August 26th, cumulative sales had exceeded 12,000 units, indicating strong demand for this new Geely model.
Can the same sales success be replicated in Malaysia as the e.MAS 7? Well its all about features and selling price and Geely will deliver both in Malaysia in the coming months. Let us explain.
The Galaxy E5 is built on the global intelligent new energy architecture GEA, and adopts minimalist design that caters to users worldwide. The E5 fully satisfies the regulatory requirements of 89 countries making it a global Geely product.
Interestingly, the Galaxy E5 selling price in China starts at just 112,800 yuan (approximately 15,400 USD or Euro 14,400). Only for China customers, ordering the E5 before 1st October will be given a 3,000 yuan rebate which is about Euro 385. If we do a conversion to Malaysian Ringgit, this is about RM65,000 only (before any factory rebates).
Meanwhile, this Galaxy E5 is powered by the ‘Aegis’ short-blade lithium iron phosphate batteries and did you know that the battery’s lifespan is exceptional, with a cycle life of up to 3,500 cycles, equivalent to covering 1 million kilometers with minimal range impact.
The cabin entertainment is state of the art with Meizu’s Flyme Auto infotainment system included.
This E5 will be sold with two battery options: a 49.52 kWh battery with a range of 440 km and a 60.22 kWh battery extending the range to 530 km. These configurations cater to different driving needs, whether for daily commutes or longer trips.
With a body dimension of 4615 × 1901 × 1670 mm and a wheelbase of 2750 mm, the E5 currently outperforms its counterparts with better driving and riding experience.
Powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 160 kW, the Galaxy E5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Its drag coefficient of 0.269 Cd contributes to its overall efficiency.
So, Malaysians will be getting a brand new battery powered model from Geely and at a very competitive selling price and this means the adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia will rise faster. Good news all around.
