The BYD M6 takes on a new segment with 7 seats and an excellent price.
After being launched in neighbouring Indonesia in May of this year, the BYD M6 has now been introduced in Malaysia at a very attractive price tag which starts at just RM109,800. This 7-seater all-electric MPV is a rather unique option in the market currently as the only other electric MPVs on offer are the Mifa 9 at RM280K and the Zeekr 009 at RM370K.
Those are far larger and more upmarket, hence the massive price difference. The BYD M9 targets the mass market with the Atto 3’s battery and motor setup and is fully-imported from China.
In Malaysia, there will be two variants of the BYD M6 – the Standard and the Extended, both with 7 seats. The standard model is priced at RM109,800 and comes with a 55.4kWh Blade Battery with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry enabling a 420km range (NEDC). It has a 161hp/310Nm of torque front mounted motor that gets the MPV from 0-100km/h in 10.1 seconds. This variant can take 89kW DC Fast Charging. 7kW AC charging is what’s available on both variants of the M6.
The one to get is the M6 Extended, with its 71.8kWh Blade battery returning some 530km of range (NEDC). The century sprint gets dispatched in 8.6 seconds. The BYD M6 has a top speed of 180km/h. This model can accept DC Fast Charging at up to 115kW for a 10-80% charge up time of just 40 minutes. The M6 features vehicle-to-load functionality as standard.
The interior is wrapped in brown faux leather as standard and you have 180L of boot space with all 7 seats in use. This expands to 580L with the last row folded down. Equipment includes a PM 2.5 air filter, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a 360-degree parking camera, an NFC key card and start stop capability via smartphones or Apple Watch. The 12.8″ rotating screen features Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and has a 6-speaker set-up. An interesting built-in feature is the karaoke feature, which turns the car into a full-on karaoke box complete with optional USB-microphones and lyrics when the vehicle is stationary.
Standard safety features include 6 airbags and your standard braking and traction aids. The M6 Extended variant adds ADAS, which includes the following aids:
- autonomous emergency braking
- lane centering assist
- blind spot monitoring
- rear cross traffic alert
- emergency lane keeping
- door opening warning
- adaptive cruise control
Besides that, the BYD M6 Extended model adds quite a lot of kit including a panoramic glass roof, a six-way power adjustable driver seat, a four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, a roof rack, a powered tailgate, auto high-beam for the headlights and a functional roof rack.
The M6 comes in 4 colours – Crystal White, Ink Stone Blue, Cosmos Black and Harbour Grey. The vehicle comes with a 6-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty and an 8-year/150,000km drive unit warranty.
