BMW X3 With Six-Cylinder Diesel Engine Confirmed For 2025

Why Is the 2025 BMW X3 Coming With A Six-Cylinder Diesel Engine

The death of the M40d doesn’t spell the end for the six-cylinder X3 diesel after all. Although the oil-burner M Performance model is no more, the luxury crossover will get a bigger diesel in 2025 and this variant is sadly not scheduled for introduction and sale in Malaysia.

So, surprise, surprise ….. a latest-generation six-cylinder in-line diesel unit will join the line-up of engines for the new BMW X3 in 2025. As a result, the new edition of the popular BMW SAV can cater to a variety of expectations in terms of sporting ability and efficiency. All the combustion engines are combined with 48V mild hybrid technology.

The four-cylinder diesel unit in the new BMW X3 20d xDrive has been made more powerful and more efficient than ever. In addition to the 48V mild hybrid technology, it also features a lightweight crankcase with low-friction pistons made from tempered steel and a graphite coating for the piston skirts, as well as an active oil separator with map-regulated electric drive.

The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology at the heart of the 2.0-litre engine has likewise been updated. In an effort to cut fuel consumption and emissions, improvements have been made to the efficiency of the two-stage turbocharging and to the common-rail injection and exhaust gas recirculation systems.

The new unit posts maximum output of 197 hp, with peak torque standing at 400 Nm. The new BMW X3 20d xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. The car’s superior efficiency is reflected in combined fuel consumption and CO2 figures of 6.5 – 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres (43.5 – 48.7 mpg imp) and 171 – 153 grams per kilometre in the WLTP cycle.

Please note that BMW is not alone in delivering new diesel powered luxury vehicles right now, even Audi has a new diesel which was launched months ago.
