Volvo Introduces The New And Improved XC90 And EX90 Electric Spin Off

Volvo has improved the XC90 while also offering a fully electric version in the EX90 now

Volvo Cars is making headlines with the launch of two significant models, the updated XC90 and the all-new EX90, each representing a critical step in the company’s journey towards electrification and advanced technology. Naturally, as Volvo has placed a heavy emphasis on electrification in the past, it is no surprise that the EX90 is essentially an all electric XC90.

The revamped Volvo XC90 builds on its legacy as a top-tier hybrid SUV with a range of enhancements. This premium seven-seater now features a more contemporary exterior design and an updated interior that integrates Volvo’s latest technology.

Moreover, the Volvo XC90’s plug-in hybrid variant offers an impressive 70km of fully electric range on a single charge under the WLTP cycle, with an extended overall range of over 800km when combined with its petrol engine. This makes it a versatile choice for both daily commutes and longer journeys.

The Volvo XC90’s interior upgrades include a larger, high-resolution central touchscreen, improved practicality with additional storage options, and a redesigned cabin with premium recycled materials. It also boasts enhanced ride comfort thanks to advanced suspension systems and optional air suspension that adjusts for various driving conditions.

On top of that, safety remains a cornerstone, with features like advanced lane-keeping assistance and collision avoidance systems. The Volvo EX90 marks a new era as Volvo’s flagship fully electric SUV. It combines cutting-edge technology with a range of up to 600km on a single charge.

The Volvo EX90 introduces several firsts for Volvo, including an in-car AI computer based on NVIDIA DRIVE and Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, enhancing the car’s responsiveness and functionality. It is also the first Volvo to include lidar technology for improved safety and bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing it to contribute to a more sustainable energy grid.

Jim Rowan, Volvo’s CEO, praised the EX90’s performance during a recent cross-country road trip, highlighting its exceptional handling, comfort, and technology. The EX90 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features and regular over-the-air updates that ensure continuous improvement. The first batch of EX90s is now being shipped to retailers in the US and Europe, with broader availability expected in early 2025.

Both the updated Volvo XC90 and the new EX90 illustrate Volvo’s commitment to enhancing their product lineup with advanced technology and sustainable solutions. The XC90 continues to serve as a flagship hybrid option, while the EX90 paves the way for a fully electrified future, reflecting Volvo’s strategic shift towards innovative, eco-friendly mobility solutions.
