Since SUVs are all the rage, will a smaller Volkswagen SUV be a hot seller in Malaysia?
Volkswagen of America Inc. has unveiled a range of updates for the 2025 Taos, enhancing its style, technology, and performance while maintaining its reputation as an affordable and enjoyable SUV. These updates include refreshed exterior styling, new technology features, and powertrain improvements that boost the vehicle’s appeal.
Externally, the 2025 Taos now boasts a more dynamic front-end design. Key changes include a redesigned bumper, a new grille with an optional light bar, and standard LED projector headlights with available Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS).
Moreover, the rear of the vehicle features connected taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen badge (similar to the latest Touareg), contributing to a more upscale appearance. The colour palette also expands with three new paint options, namely, Bright Moss Green, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Monument Gray.
Additionally, new wheel designs are introduced: 17-inch aluminium alloys for the front-wheel-drive S models, 18-inch alloys for the front-wheel-drive SE, and 19-inch wheels for the SEL. The SE Black trim, introduced for 2024, continues with a distinctive black roof, trim, and unique wheel options, 18 inches for front-wheel-drive and 19 inches for 4Motion models.
Inside, the 2025 Volkswagen Taos also features a redesigned dashboard with new materials and colour options. All models come standard with an 8-inch floating infotainment display, while the SE trim and above offer touch control for the Climatronic HVAC system. Enhanced acoustic dampening has been added to reduce interior noise.
On top of that, the Taos S features two-tone black and grey cloth upholstery, whereas the SE and SE Black trims come with CloudTex and cloth materials, with the SE offering two-tone options and the SE Black in all black. SEL models are equipped with leather seats, available in either a two-tone black and grey combination or a new dark blue hue.
Under the hood, the 2025 Volkswagen Taos is powered by an updated 1.5-liter EA211 turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine. This engine now delivers 174hp, up from the previous model’s 158 hp, thanks to changes including revised piston rings, fuel injectors, a modified turbo housing, a larger intercooler, and a new gasoline particulate filter.
What’s more, the 4Motion models also benefit from an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic. The 2025 Taos continues to offer Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of advanced driver assistance features across all trims.
This includes semi-automated driving assistance, Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, Active Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, ACC, Stop and Go, Lane Keeping assist and semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency.
