In our humble opinion, this BYD Dolphin is the best value electric car to start your EV transition
In July 2023 this BYD Dolphin arrived in Malaysia to tackle a whole new electric car segment which had NO REAL rivals. Yes, there were other compact electric vehicles in the market, but no real rival to this well built and high technology BYD product.
Interestingly, this award winning BYD has been very popular with urban Malaysians looking for a starter electric car.
Its new selling price was RM99,900 for the ‘Dynamic’ variant and RM124,900 for the ‘Premium’ Extended variant which is on sale here in the used car classifieds.
Just one year old and with battery health at 410km range which the buyer can get verification from BYD service centers in Malaysia, this we feel is a good way to try electric vehicle ownership at a RM80k plus budget. Loan will still be available at an attractive interest rate and even after 5 years of ownership, the depreciation should not be more than half the purchase value, given the popularity of BYD in Malaysia and its strong network of after sales.
