Changan Deepal Electric Vehicles Coming To Malaysia Soon

The Changan Deepal has had good response in Pakistan and now it is coming to Malaysia

Did you know that Changan Automobile was founded in 1862 and it is China’s oldest automaker and one of the pioneers of the automotive industry with a history spanning over 160 years already?

Interestingly, this Chinese automotive brand started its electric vehicle ASIA Pacific expansion a year ago with an introduction in Pakistan and more recently Thailand where it has started work building a factory in Rayong on November 8th 2023 and this factory will be supplying right hand drive vehicles (electric) to Malaysia very soon.

Meanwhile, on the 10th of January 2024, its Thai partner, Changan Automobile, celebrated the inaugural delivery ceremony of 50 units of the DEEPAL L07 and the DEEPAL S07 vehicles at Asiatique the Riverfront in Bangkok, Thailand, under the theme “Touch The Future: Drive With Deepal.”

Changan Thailand offers the L07 sedan and S07 SUV in the local market (Chinese names are SL03 and S7). These vehicles are available as EVs with RWD and ternary NMC batteries for 66.8 kWh. In China, they are also available as EREVs.

So, the abovementioned DEEPAL models will be arriving in Malaysia before Christmas 2024 and will be distributed by a very well established automotive ‘GROUP’ (this will be their second Chinese made EV) which we cannot share the details as yet. Selling prices will be very competitive and going by the current EV demand in Malaysia, the DEEPAL EV’s will be well received.

In case you were wondering, Changan jointly developed its EV platform with Huawei and CATL.

The interior of the Changan Deepal L07 has a 14.6-inch screen paired with a 10.5-inch LCD instrument cluster. It has a single electric motor that delivers 190 kW on the rear axle.

Powered by a 66.8 kWh ternary NMC battery it has a possible driving range of 540 km (NEDC). The Deepal L07 is priced from 1,329,000 baht (which is about 38,000 USD). This electric sedan has earned the prestigious Red Dot Award 2023 Product Design Award.

Meanwhile, the Deepal S07 SUV has a length of 4750mm a width of 1930mm and a height of 1625mm with a wheelbase of 2900mm. It rides on 20 inch wheels and has a ground clearance of 165mm.

Inside the S07 SUV you have a 15.6-inch touchscreen and 14 speakers for a premium sounding experience. It shares a powertrain with the L07 sedan. But since it is an SUV, its range is a little less at 485 km (NEDC). The starting price of the Deepal S07 in Thailand is 1,399,000 baht (which is about 40,000 USD).

The Changan Deepal’s direct rivals in Thailand are from BYD, GWM and MG with very similar pricing, features and battery capacity.
