The BYD Seal Dynamic is a new entry-level variant aimed at expanding the appeal of the award winning EV.
It was only in February of this year when Sime Darby Beyond Auto and BYD Malaysia launched the Seal – a new 4-door electric vehicle aimed at directly taking on the Tesla Model 3. Half a year ago at launch, only two variants were offered – the RWD Premium and the AWD Performance. Today, we’re seeing the introduction of a third variant that slows below those two initial offerings and it’s called the Dynamic variant. The BYD Seal Dynamic was introduced at Sime Darby’s AutoMania 2024, which is happening throughout the weekend at Stadium Bukit Jalil Car Park B.
What To Expect On The BYD Seal Dynamic
On the plus side, you’re getting the same look and feel of the existing Seal models. The same award-winning design and excellent safety features are still ‘standard’ on the Seal. Really, the amount of equipment that comes on the Seal is still very impressive, just take a gander:
- LED headlights and taillights
- retractable door handles
- panoramic sunroof
- faux leather upholstery (different feel but same look)
- 15.6″ rotating infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 10.25″ digital instrument cluster
- 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system
- NFC key card
- heads up display
- dual wireless qi chargers
The other big plus is the price. It now starts at just RM163,800 which is RM16,000 less than the BYD Seal Premium. So what do you miss out on besides the higher quality leather interior?
Well, in terms of equipment the wheels have been downgraded to an 18″ alloy of a different look and these are wrapped in Giti Comfort 225/50 R18 tyres.
The bigger downgrade comes in the form of a much smaller battery pack with a slower charging rate and a lower output single rear-mounted electric motor. The battery pack in the Seal Dynamic has a capacity of 61.44kWh (versus 82.56kWh on existing variants) and returns 510km of range on the optimistic NEDC cycle. What’s more, the DC charging rate ceiling has dropped from 150kW to 110kW, meaning slower ‘fast’ charging at public charge points. The electric motor has dropped in output from 230kW and 360Nm of torque on the Premium model to 150kW and 310Nm of torque on this new Dynamic variant. This means it goes from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds which is still reasonable but not as impressive as the Premium’s 5.9 seconds or the Performance model’s 3.8 seconds.
Another thing to note is that only 2 colour options are available – Cosmos Black and Aurora White. The warranty package is still 6-years /150,000km for the vehicle and 8-years /150,000km on the high-voltage battery.
The first 100 bookings of this new BYD Seal Dynamic variant will include a complimentary Wall Box Home charger.
