The iconic Volkswagen Golf just got more famous with a new record achievement
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has achieved a significant milestone by setting a new national record for the largest gathering of Golf vehicles. On 24 August 2024, at the Sepang International Circuit, 370 units of the iconic Volkswagen Golf came together for the 2024 Golf Fan Fest.
This event not only celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Golf but also established a new entry in the Malaysia Book of Records. The Golf, a beloved Volkswagen model, has seen over 37 million units sold across more than 70 countries, marking it as one of the most successful cars ever produced.
Moreover, now in its eighth iteration, the Golf continues to captivate fans with its innovative design, outstanding performance, and unique style. During the fan fest, VPCM also unveiled a special edition of the Golf GTI to commemorate the milestone. The Golf GTI Edition 50, with only 50 units available for the Malaysian market, features exclusive enhancements and is assembled in Pekan, Malaysia.
This limited-edition model is adorned with a distinctive commemorative “50” emblem on the steering wheel, an Oettinger body kit, new wheels, and various other exterior and interior upgrades. Priced from RM267,990, it comes with the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which includes five years of maintenance, an unlimited mileage warranty, and five years of roadside assistance.
On top of that, the Golf GTI Edition 50 made its debut at the Fan Fest, which attracted nearly 2,000 attendees. Participants included Golf owners, enthusiasts, families, and even a group from Singapore. The event featured a variety of activities such as a high-octane gymkhana driving challenge, Golf R drift taxi rides, and track sessions.
Attendees also enjoyed a showcase of the Golf’s evolution over the past five decades, and the day included awards for the country’s biggest Golf fan, alongside test drives, model car kits, tech talks, and workshops about Golf ownership.
Earlier in the year, VPCM celebrated another achievement by launching the Touareg R-Line, a flagship SUV fully assembled at the Pekan plant. This makes Malaysia the only country outside of the Bratislava plant in Europe to produce this third-generation five-seater SUV for the global market.
