This 620kg Hydrogen Powered Supercar Can Accelerate To 100km/h In Just 3.5 Seconds

Will this groundbreaking lightweight hydrogen supercar be sold here in Malaysia?

UK-based Riversimple is setting a new benchmark in the automotive world with its groundbreaking hydrogen-powered supercar. This remarkable vehicle stands out with its impressive range of 400 miles (about 644km) and an extraordinarily lightweight design, tipping the scales at just 620kg.

Riversimple’s innovative approach addresses a critical issue in the industry, vehicle weight. The supercar’s minimal weight is achieved through advanced materials and engineering, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.5 seconds.

Moreover, it also boasts a top speed of 160km/h, powered by a compact but efficient 29kW fuel cell. This design makes it approximately 1,000 kg lighter than the Lotus Evija, one of the most well-known electric supercars on the market.

This hydrogen-powered supercar represents a significant departure from traditional performance vehicles. Its lightweight construction not only enhances speed but also optimises fuel efficiency and overall performance. Riversimple’s innovative design philosophy emphasises not just raw power but also efficiency, speed, and practicality.

Hugo Spowers MBE, the founder and chief engineer of Riversimple, also describes the car as “an antidote to excess and power for the sake of it,” and views it as a chance to redefine what sports cars can be in the 21st century. This is refreshing especially since so many modern cars are so similar in almost every way.

On top of that, the supercar is engineered to achieve 0 to 100 mph in 6.4 seconds, with a top speed capped at 160km/h. Riversimple has deliberately chosen to focus on these performance metrics rather than pushing for higher top speeds, which can lead to increased weight, decreased efficiency, and compromised vehicle dynamics.

According to the company, the choice of a lower top speed is deliberate to maintain optimal vehicle balance and efficiency. The low unsprung mass and overall light weight of the vehicle contribute to its ‘unrivalled’ handling dynamics, making it not only fast but also exceptionally agile. Let’s hope the car lives up to this.

This focus on lightness enhances both acceleration and range, with Riversimple projecting a remarkable 410 miles of travel on a single hydrogen charge. Riversimple’s hydrogen-powered supercar is not just a technical marvel but also a vision for the future of high-performance vehicles. It combines lightweight engineering with cutting-edge hydrogen technology to offer an unparalleled driving experience.
