The smart #5 Was Just Launched, Here Is What We Know

It looks like the next smart product we will see in Malaysia will be the smart #5

The smart #5 marks the debut of the brand’s first 800 V electric vehicle, showcasing impressive performance and technological advancements that surpass competitors like Porsche. With a 100 kWh battery and 400 kW charging power, the smart #5 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 15 minutes, surpassing the 2023 Porsche Taycan Turbo S in speed.

The vehicle also features a standard 22kW charger, which is notably faster than the 11kW chargers typically offered by other brands. At its global premiere, the smart #5 was introduced as the brand’s largest model, though it remains relatively compact compared to its appearance.

Moreover, measuring 4.70 metres in length with a nearly 3-metre wheelbase and a width of 1.90 metres, the smart #5 is designed for spaciousness with a focus on technology and versatility. Its design is influenced by Mercedes, boasting a long wheelbase and short overhangs to maximise interior space.

The smart #5 will launch in China as a Premium+ version, with a Brabus variant to be introduced separately. The Premium version includes advanced features already seen in the smart #1 and #3, while the Summit Edition adds practical enhancements like a roof light bar, electric trailer hitch, and additional exterior protection features.

Performance-wise, the smart #5 offers multiple drivetrain options, including rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. Inside, the smart #5 emphasises luxury and innovation, featuring a highly advanced infotainment system with a 25.6-inch head-up display, a 10.3-inch speedometer display, and dual 13-inch AMOLED screens. The car’s AMD V2000 processor supports these high-tech displays, and the interface includes a generative AI voice assistant.

On top of that, additional interior features include a practical 220 V socket for powering devices, an electric panoramic roof, and a premium Sennheiser sound system with 20 speakers. The smart #5 also offers a V2L function, allowing it to power external devices. Externally, the smart #5 is designed for off-road capability with a roof rack, electric trailer hitch, and various storage solutions.

The smart #5 will first be available in China by the end of this year and is expected to launch in Europe in spring 2025. Pricing details are not yet available, but it is anticipated that the smart #5 will be priced 20 to 30 percent higher than the smart #1, reflecting the additional features and performance upgrades.
