The smart #5 is coming with Sennheiser sound, which might be a first for the Malaysian market.
In the last 2 decades, the sheer number of high-end audio solutions brands coming into the automotive space has been staggering. From Harman Kardon, Bose, Mark Levinson, Lexicon, Bowers & Wilkins, Focal, Morel, Infinity, Burmester, JBL, Sony and even Beats – the list goes on and is ever expanding, giving audiophiles more of a reason to consider sticking with one car brand over another. Now, Malaysians can look forward to seeing another respected sound brand be available – Sennheiser.
Sennheiser has an incredible reputation in the mainstream-premium headphone market and now they’re heading into the mainstream-premium automotive space with the smart #5. This vehicle is set to premium tomorrow and Sennheiser audio will be a headline feature at least for the Australian market but the partnership between the two German brands is said to span across all markets including China and Europe. We may also expect to see the smart #5 be the Sennheiser equipped mass market car in Malaysia before long.
That being said, this isn’t Sennheiser’s first rodeo in the automotive space. Their Sennheiser Mobility division has in the past partnered up with Mercedes-AMG for the ONE Hypercar, with Cupra for the Tavascan and with Morgan on their Plus Four and Plus Six models. On the smart #5, Sennheiser Mobility will bring the 2000W Sennheiser Signature Sound System, which consists of 20 speakers AND a portable speaker too. The system features patented audio algorithms from Sennheiser as well as Dolby Atmos support, Concerto with AMBEO technology and Contrabass. They’ve worked closely with engineers from smart to create a raising speaker platform and synchronised ambient lighting.
Clearly, the sound system on the smart #5 is a big upgrade over the one Sennheiser supplied to Cupra, which consisted of a 425W 12-speaker set up. As a reminder, the smart #1 BRABUS and smart #3 BRABUS comes with 640W 13-speaker sound system by Beats.
Ms. Mandy Zhang, Global CMO of smart, said: “smart is born to inspire people to explore the opportunities of the world by making their journey utterly enjoyable and comfortable experiences. Our collaboration with Sennheiser represents the beginning of a new era in smart’s in-car entertainment offerings and the start of another journey with a truly outstanding global partner. We are more than confident in delivering an unparalleled experience in sound.”
Dr. Andreas Sennheiser, Co-CEO of Sennheiser, said: “We are delighted to continue bringing our remarkable Sennheiser sound to the automotive space through our partnership with smart. At Sennheiser we deliver products and experiences that create goosebumps on the skin. In this partnership we are poised to do exactly that, offering a truly immersive listening experience that puts the driver and passengers at the centre of their favourite music.”
