Proton X50 Crashes On Second Penang Bridge Yesterday, Security Guard Dead

This fatal accident happened in Bayan Lepas early yesterday morning

A tragic accident occurred early yesterday morning on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, commonly known as the Penang Second Bridge, resulting in the death of a security guard. The incident took place at KM18.2 of the bridge, which is a crucial route connecting Batu Kawan to Batu Maung.

The accident was reported at approximately 5:50 AM when the victim, identified as M Guna, a 29-year-old security guard, was driving a Proton X50 SUV. The vehicle, which was travelling alone at the time, lost control and crashed into the road barrier, causing it to spin and come to rest on the motorcycle lane barrier.

Moreover, despite the swift response from emergency services, Guna was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained during the crash. Southwest District Police Chief, Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal, revealed that the preliminary investigation indicated Guna was driving from Batu Kawan towards Batu Maung when the incident occurred.

The vehicle’s collision with the barrier resulted in significant damage, and emergency responders from the Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Bayan Baru had to use specialised equipment to extricate Guna from the wreckage. He was confirmed dead by medical personnel on-site.

On top of that, Superintendent Kamarul Rizal noted that while Guna held a valid driver’s licence, the road tax for the SUV had expired in March. An examination of the vehicle and the scene is ongoing, with the victim’s body being sent to the hospital for further examination.

Blood samples will be analysed by the Chemistry Department to check for alcohol or drug use, as part of the standard procedure in such cases. Further complicating the investigation, a lorry driver has reported that Guna’s vehicle may have collided with the rear of his truck before the fatal crash.

Police are currently reviewing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage and seeking additional witnesses to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the accident. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless driving resulting in death.

The authorities are working diligently to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether any additional factors contributed to this tragic event. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. We got all this from Buletin TV3. Thank you TV3 for the information and images.
