It seems the Merdeka Parade will be hijacked by the debut of the Proton e.Mas 7
It looks like this year’s Merdeka celebrations will be marked by a very special event, the first public appearance of the Proton e.MAS 7. Our very own homegrown electric vehicle (EV) (kind of) is finally debuting. The e.MAS 7, Proton’s very first EV, was previewed on 2 August 2024, launching a journey that will culminate in its market debut later this year.
For Merdeka Day, the e.MAS 7 will be showcased with a unique camouflage motif inspired by the Jalur Gemilang, as part of a 25-car parade featuring a range of Proton models. With a legacy spanning 41 years, Proton is a cornerstone of Malaysia’s automotive history and our first national carmaker so this is a proud moment for all patriots indeed.
Moreover, the National Day parade offers a perfect platform for Proton to highlight its progress over the decades. The 25-car lineup will include vehicles from the original Proton Saga to the recently launched 2025 Proton X70, unveiled just two weeks ago.
Dr. Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton, stated, “While we celebrate our past achievements, we also focus on the future of the automotive industry. Including the Proton e.MAS 7 in our parade lineup, even before its official launch, allows the public to preview our first EV model. Although it’s not the final production version, we’ve adorned it with camouflage in the colours of Malaysia’s flag to honour National Day.”
In addition to its parade appearance, testing and climatization activities for the Proton e.MAS 7 have also intensified following its media debut. These efforts are crucial to ensuring that Malaysia’s first national EV meets the expectations and needs of its future customers.
Dr. Li Chunrong also said, “The e.MAS 7 represents not only Proton’s first EV but also the first Proton model developed in collaboration with Geely. This partnership has significantly shortened lead times for right-hand drive versions and improved efficiency through shared development costs.”
“The true measure of success will be the reception of the e.MAS 7 by buyers in Malaysia and international markets. To achieve this, Proton is diligently working on every aspect of the model’s development, marketing, sales, and after-sales support.” He concluded.
As Proton continues to innovate and prepare for the e.MAS 7’s market introduction, the National Day parade will offer a glimpse of the brand’s commitment to shaping the future of automotive technology in Malaysia. So how will our local EV fare and will we finally have a decent electric option for below RM100,000? Let’s find out.
