Let’s hope Polestar sets up a CKD plant for the Polestar 3 here in Malaysia instead
Polestar, a sub brand of Swedish luxury automaker, Volvo, has officially commenced production of its luxury SUV, the Polestar 3, at its new facility in South Carolina, USA. This significant milestone marks the first time a Polestar vehicle is being produced on two continents. The South Carolina factory will manufacture vehicles for both American and European markets, supplementing the existing production lines in Chengdu, China.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, emphasised the importance of this development, stating, “Manufacturing the Polestar 3 in the USA is a pivotal moment for us. It allows us to offer American customers an electric SUV that is built right here in America.”
Moreover, Ingenlath further noted that exporting the South Carolina-produced Polestar 3 to Europe will enhance Polestar’s global presence. “The Polestar 3 has garnered exceptional reviews from automotive critics worldwide and has generated significant interest from potential customers during test drives. I am confident that it stands as the best-looking and best-driving SUV available today.” He said.
Polestar’s strategic move to establish a manufacturing base in the United States is part of a broader strategy to diversify its production footprint. The company is preparing to expand further with the anticipated start of production for the Polestar 4 in South Korea by mid-2025.
This approach also reflects Polestar’s asset-light strategy, which leverages the expertise, flexibility, and scalability of its partners and major stakeholders to drive innovation and efficiency. The Polestar 3 exemplifies the company’s commitment to performance and luxury in the electric vehicle market.
On top of that, combining Scandinavian design aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, the Polestar 3 offers a compelling package of superior driving dynamics and advanced features. The SUV is equipped with centralised core computing powered by NVIDIA, ensuring top-notch performance and connectivity.
It also includes a comprehensive array of advanced safety systems, reflecting Polestar’s dedication to safety and innovation. Polestar’s expansion into the U.S. market with local production of the Polestar 3 underscores its commitment to meeting growing consumer demand for electric vehicles while reinforcing its global footprint.
As Volvo and Polestar continue to broaden their manufacturing capabilities and product offerings, it aims to solidify its position as a leader in the electric vehicle segment, delivering high-performance, technologically advanced, and aesthetically pleasing vehicles to customers around the world.
