Mitsubishi Xforce Earns A 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating, Malaysian Launch Soon?

Since safety is a priority in Malaysia, will the Mitsubishi Xforce be landing locally?

Excitement is building among automotive enthusiasts as rumours suggest that the Mitsubishi Xforce compact crossover will soon make its debut locally. This highly anticipated vehicle has recently earned a prestigious five-star rating from the 2024 ASEAN NCAP (ASEAN New Car Assessment Program), proving its commitment to safety.

Moreover, the Mitsubishi Xforce is the second model from the tri-diamond brand to be evaluated under the more rigorous 2021-2025 ASEAN NCAP protocols, following the new Triton. It achieved an impressive combined weighted score of 79.15, reflecting its strong performance across various safety categories.

Notably, the Mitsubishi Xforce tested was the lower-spec Exceed variant, in contrast to the top-trim Ultimate model, and was sourced from Indonesia, where it is also sold in the Philippines and Vietnam.

In the ASEAN NCAP assessment, the Xforce excelled in several key areas. It secured 27.91 out of 32.00 points in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 43.43 out of 51.00 points in child occupant protection (COP). Additionally, the vehicle scored 15.59 out of 21.00 points in the safety assist category and 9.91 out of 16.00 points in the motorcyclist safety category.

On top of that, ASEAN NCAP praised the Mitsubishi Xforce for its comprehensive safety features. The model includes four airbags as standard, along with essential safety technologies such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seat Belt Reminder System (SBR) for both front and rear seats, and Pedestrian Protection (PP) technology.

It also offers advanced safety options like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City and Inter-Urban, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Auto High Beam (AHB). The Xforce first premiered in Indonesia in 2023, designed as a versatile and stylish five-seat SUV suitable for the dynamic lifestyles of the ASEAN region.

Mitsubishi has highlighted the Xforce’s blend of robust SUV styling, comfort, and practicality, with features such as a spacious cabin and adaptable storage solutions within a compact footprint. Following its introduction in Indonesia, the Mitsubishi Xforce was rolled out in other ASEAN markets, including Vietnam in March and the Philippines in July.

The model has already been making waves all over ASEAN so a Malaysian launch is all but confirmed at this point as it would be the next logical step for Mitsubishi to take. Plus, the success of the Proton X50 proves Malaysians want more compact crossovers so why not, right?
